The High School WIN period Talented Art class is different from all others in that it is a for-credit class that will go on the student's transcript.
Talented Art is a course designed to:
Help students develop advanced technical and creative skills in the arts in a variety of media
Provide opportunities to explore the art world and art careers and prepare them to join both
Develop their artistic voice
In Talented Art we follow the conduct policies and guidelines found in the student handbook.
We will also follow our own code of conduct developed as a class based on the Griffin Big 5:
Mutual Respect
Active Participation
Consistent Effort
Intentional Reflection
Ongoing Perseverance
Late work is accepted until the 8th week of the semester. It is far better to turn in something than nothing!
Expectations will be communicated whenever work is assigned. They can also be found on each assignment uploaded to google classroom.
However, I do understand that sometimes things happen! I encourage students to speak with me if they need more time, assistance, or realize they made a mistake and see what adjustments we can make. The sooner the better! The worst thing a student can do when there is an issue is not say anything or wait until grades are due to bring it up. This leaves us with no time to address the issue. Teachers are not able to make changes to the grade book beyond the 8th week of each semester so any late work must be turned in at the beginning of the 8th week to allow time for grading.
The school wide expectation is that on days when students are absent they should be joining class via the Classroom Google Meet [or the recording] and completing assignments posted in google classroom for that day.
During the 1st period we must first watch the live morning announcements feed which means the Talented Art google meet will not open right at 7:35am when the tardy bell rings. Depending on how long announcements take it might not open until 7:40am to 7:50am. So if you don't have any luck just check back in a few minutes.
The student should speak with Ms. Tolliver when they return to school to make sure they are all caught up and so she can answer any questions or make modifications to their workload as needed.
If there are any questions about an assignment while absent Ms. Tolliver can be contacted via email (sophia.tolliver@desotopsb.com) or via the Rooms app.
