What is flipped learning?
Flipped learning is when students watch the lesson at home for homework and then do the typical homework pages in class with the teacher.
Why is this beneficial?
There are numerous reasons this is beneficial:
1) Your students have the power of learning in their hands. They can pause the video and rewind when they don't understand. They can watch the video (or parts of the video) over and over again until they feel comfortable.
2) Parents no longer have to be proficient in math. All the application problems of a skill are now done in class with the math expert (us, the teachers!).
3) When it comes time for tests, students have access to all the videos and can go back and rewatch anything they feel that they are still struggling with.
4) Lastly, these videos can be watched anywhere at anytime! Headed to a baseball game? No problem! Watch the video on the way to the game! Have an orthodontist appointment right in the middle of math? That's ok! You can still access all of the lectures so you don't fall behind.
So what can I do to help?
You can encourage your students to watch the videos. Remind them that they have to take learning into their own hands by pausing, rewinding, and asking questions. You being excited about this will keep them excited about this.
