About the Choir:
All district choir is a great way to meet new singers from other schools, build up a resume, and fine tune your musical skills. These district choir events are deeply impactful and shows students how powerful choral singing can be. You can also list being selected to this choir as an ‘honor’ for your college application or high school graduation. I hope many of you will audition!
The Audition:
Singing portion: This year we will be using “Alma del core” from the 24 Italian Arias. It’s only one song! Sopranos and Tenors sing from the HIGH book while Altos and Basses sing from the LOW book. This solo DOES NOT have to be memorized. Original copies will be provided in all of the audition rooms. Audition tracks are located HERE. These are the literal tracks that you will be using in the audition, so get comfortable with them!
Sight Reading Portion: There will also be a sight reading portion, where you will be asked to:
Identify 1 sharp key signature
Identify 1 flat key signature
Sing a 4 measure sight reading example by yourself
Sing a 4 measure sight reading example on your voice part
It’s easy peasy! You can do it in your sleep! I will also be coaching you throughout the semester, making sure you are properly prepared for the audition.
Before the audition, you will need to meet with Ms. Jones once a week for half an hour to make sure you are prepped and ready for the audition. Please sign up on this schedule to reserve your spot.
All State Choir
If you make the top 20 in your voice part out of all the people in the All District Choir, you will get a chance to then audition for the Missouri All State Choir. The top 4 sopranos, altos, tenors, and basses are then selected to the Missouri All State Choir, which is an extreme honor (and just a really big deal!) This involves a trip to the Lake of the Ozarks and a life changing experience, working with some of the best musicians in the country. (If you make it into the All State Choir, most of this trip is paid for by school.) Please ask Ms. Jones if you would like to learn more!
