This Wednesday, March 10th, the first lady arrived at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms after landing at the Palm Springs Airport the previous day. Her goal was to kickstart her plan to relaunch her Joining Forces initiative.
Joining Forces is a program dedicated to assisting current or veteran U.S. military personnel and their families. It was founded in 2011 in partnership with former First Lady Michelle Obama, when Dr. Biden was the Second Lady. Jill Biden’s Twentynine Palms visit was an attempt to better understand the situations that military families are going through during the pandemic.
She stopped by the childhood development center to connect with children on the base. Dr. Biden then held a conference to share her plans for Joining Forces. She also discussed the approval of her husband’s most recent proposal, the American Rescue Plan. The American Rescue Plan of 2021 is Biden’s $1.9 trillion stimulus package. It is hoped that it will assist families like the ones that Jill Biden spoke with.
