Hello! My name is Sydney Porter, and I am so excited to welcome you to some of the English classes here at Dover-Eyota HSMS! This year, I am teaching two sections of English 9, one section of Honors English 9, one section of English 12, and our concurrent enrollment English classes, College English 11 & 12! On this website, you can learn some general information about me and find some information about the content of my classes.
Most of the information, assignments, assessments, and announcements I have for my classes will be on Google Classroom. Students will know how to access all of that during the school year. The grading platform for Dover-Eyota is JMC. If you are a parent and have not gotten a Parent Access username and password and would like one, please contact the office.
I look forward to a wonderful 2025-26 school year!
Ms. Porter
First of all, I love school! I went to elementary and high school up in Northern MN in the small town of Lake Park. I moved to Southern MN for college, where I graduated from Winona State University in May of 2024. Now, I am attending online graduate school through Mankato State, which has been so interesting and exciting for me.
Southeast Minnesota is such a beautiful area that has been so fun to explore the past five years I have been around here. The one thing I wish it had more of is lakes! I am originally from around Detroit Lakes, MN, so I miss having lakes everywhere I go. I enjoy being outdoors and doing anything active, such as hiking or rollerblading, but I love to read out in the sun more than anything. I love to read lots of types of books, but my favorite genre is fantasy. In my free time, I love to hang out with my family and friends, bake, and watch movies (especially anything Marvel)!
This fall, I am coaching junior high volleyball for the second year in a row. Volleyball is my favorite sport to play, but I also love watching football and basketball.
I am so excited to get to know all my students this year, and I know it will be a great school year!
The pictures above show me with my dad, my mom, and my brothers Ben and Jackson. They all still live near Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, where I grew up, along with most of my extended family. I love to go visit them often! We also enjoy spending time traveling together to see cool new places!
Oh no!
These two got sad that they were left out. These are our dogs, Waylon and Willie. I still refer to them as "my dogs," even though I live over five hours away from them most of the time.
But their welcome home greeting makes the drive to see them worth it!
