In this course, we will spend one semester sharpening our academic writing skills and one semester developing our public speaking abilities. During the writing portion, you’ll practice drafting, revising, and polishing essays that build strong arguments and clear ideas. In the speaking portion, you’ll prepare and deliver different types of speeches while learning strategies for confidence, organization, and effective communication. Throughout the year, you’ll gain skills that not only help you succeed in college but also prepare you for professional and everyday situations where strong writing and speaking matter while gaining college credit.

Fall Semester: ENG 151 - Academic Writing
This course will enable students to determine a writing purpose, generate ideas to support a topic, determine an audience, develop a focus, and organize a written text, including both personal, or ‘reflective,’ writing as well as expository writing and argument. At least two papers will involve a research component through which students begin to learn the conventions of citation and documentation.
