The last 2 ping pong tournaments finished, and history has been made. For the 3rd time ever, someone has won all 3 tournaments and has earned their right to engrave their name on the legendary Chalice of Ping. Although Calvin Brey of Pereira won all 3, it’s important to remember that of the final four in the Frenstralian Open, 3 of the 4 people in the final four were Mazzinghi. So, although Pereira claimed first all 3 tournaments, Mazzinghi might gain more points overall.
For the US Open, the final four was the same as week one. The 1 seeded Calvin Brey swept the 4 seeded Jacob Shipalia, and the 2 seeded Ethan Riordan swept the 3 seeded Cameron Shipalia. In the finals, Calvin swept Ethan; 21-13 in the first set, and a come-from- behind 23-21 win in the second. With history on the line, Calvin walked into the Frenstralian Open with his eyes on the prize.
In the Elite Eight, Ethan Riordan was shockingly upset by the powerful 10 seed Jimmy Monks, who was playing in his first tournament this year. In the final four, Calvin once again swept Jacob and Jimmy swept Cameron. Now, all bets were off on the final as Calvin hadn’t played Jimmy yet. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as close as many would’ve liked. Calvin blew out Jimmy and coasted to his 3rd straight tournament win; 21-12, 21-13. History has been made, and the Chalice of Ping is back in the hands of Pereira.
