This Wednesday during Colt Class, the 2025 house fantasy league completed its draft. Some classes did this draft as the main event for that day. Spagnoli was granted the 1st round pick by pure luck. Brandsma, unluckily, was given the 10th pick. Now that the draft is over, questions arise. Who had the best draft? Which house made the worst picks? Today, I will be giving each house and Coach Hammond a draft grade.
Although they had the first overall pick, Spagnoli fumbled the first pick by taking Saquon Barkley OVER Ja’Marr Chase. Saquon had his best season in the league last year. He is a good pick, but they missed out on Ja’Marr. Their next 2 picks they recovered, taking Tyreek Hill and Tee Higgins. Tyreek was a fine pick, but he currently has an open disagreement with his organization. Their 5th round pick, Patrick Mahomes, is a good pick as an individual, but I have questions this year because the Chiefs lost their left guard this offseason. They also picked up former injured tight end T.J. Hockenson, which worries me. Overall, Spagnoli has a great running back room and quarterback, but some missteps led them to getting just a C+.
Rabata made similar mistakes to Spagnoli in how they passed up Ja’Marr Chase. They took the injury-prone Christian McCaffrey instead. Drake London was a step in the right direction until they took an ageing running back on the SAINTS, Alvin Kamara. Rabata then passed up Xavier Worthy for an early pick at Joe Burrow in round 4. Joe Burrow was taken too early, and they ended up suffering due to pressure to take one early. They ended up taking a tight early in the 6th round. Although they had a rough start to the draft, they were able to clean it up with some late-round picks. Overall, Brandsma gets a C- for the early round fumbles.
A lot of Thomas's house’s great picks came from the mismanagement of the prior 2’s first drafts going disastrous. They got lucky, being just in line to get Ja’Marr Chase, Bucky Irving, and Zay Flowers. They were able to draft possibly the best wide receiver room in the league. They only suffer from a somewhat good tight end in Tyler Warren, and at quarterback, where they have Kyler Murray. Overall, a great team crafted by Riley Weber and Mason McIntyre. Due to their situation with the tight end. I will have to give them an A-.
This is the first team that truly fumbled the bag hard with their first pick at wide receiver being in the 5th round. The Kings had the 4th overall pick and decided to take Bijan Robinson, who, in my opinion, was the right choice at that pick because Bijan will be behind a great O-Line this year. Before eventually selecting a wide receiver, the Kings took 2 tight ends and 2 running backs. You would think that this team would fix these issues with a good quarterback, but no, they took a quarterback in round 8. The Kalinowiski Kings took Justin Herbert as their quarterback. To be fair to them, Derek Tran doesn’t like football and was left to his own to draft for 8 rounds, he auto-drafted. For basically being absent at the draft, they get a D+.
With the 5th overall pick in the draft, the Spartans used their pick greatly by acquiring Justin Jefferson. They continued the hot streak, picking up Nico Collins, Jaylen Waddle, and Jalen Hurts. They built their team around wide receivers, which pleases me because receivers are less likely to get injured in comparison to running backs. They did fail to get an extremely good tight end, but they picked up Evan Engram. Willie Emmons did a great job drafting a team for the Spartans. Overall, I will give the Spartans a B+.
Coach Hammond got the 6th overall pick, and with his experience in the league, he did well with his draft this year. His first pick went to Jahmyr Gibbs, and his second to Josh Jacobs. Coach Hammond built his team this year around the running game, but also decided to pick up Xavier Worthy and Josh Allen. The 2024 MVP is expected to have another great year in Buffalo. I also like his pick of Cam Skattebo, who I watched last year put up an amazing year with Arizona. Rookies are always a wild card because there is truly no data on them. Overall, I get a good feeling from this Coach Hammond team this year. I give him a B for his grade this year.
With the 7th overall pick this year, the Elijah Knights used their capital greatly. They took CeeDee Lamb in the first round, who will have a phenomenal year, because Dak Prescott is now healthy. This section is being written after the Cowboys vs Eagles game, and CeeDee went for 18 points. In the backfield, they drafted Derrick Henry and Omarion Hampton. They got Mark Andrews at tight end, but questions have arisen lately due to a possible injury. They took Baker Mayfield in the 5th pick, and I think this year will be Baker’s best. I love their supporting cast, specifically Rashee Rice, who will be back later this year, around week 7. Overall, the Elijah Knights used their draft picks well, and because of this, they got an A.
The Spidermonkeys are on the other side of the argument that I made under Pereira’s section. Mazzinghi had the 8th overall pick and built a great team. They took Malik Nabers, who entered in his 2nd year in the league. The Spidermonkeys built a team around the run game, which is risky due to the frequency of running back injuries. In the 2nd and 3rd rounds, they picked up Jonathan Taylor and Chase Brown. They stepped in the right direction,n thou, when they picked up Lamar Jackson and Mike Evans. I also like their pick at Travis Kelce due to the suspension of Rashee Rice, who would often take some of the targets away from Kelce. Overall, I give them an A- due to reliance on the run game, and a not-so-good bench.
With the 9th overall pick, the Bulldogs had a hard position to draft from, but they did a fine job. I will first mention that I drafted for Abbati for most rounds, and so this will be biased. I decided to pick Puca Nacua in the first round, which, in hindsight, may not have been the best pick. I also decided to go with the rookie running back room with Ashton Jeanty and TreVeyon Henderson. The rookie wild card is in play for my team with Travis Hunter as a possible backup wide receiver. I did make a mistake in drafting George Kittle, who will most likely have a fine year, but not a good year. I do like my pick at quarterback with Bo Nix, who I think will avoid the sophomore slump and have a good year. Overall, I give myself and Owen Kaelin a C, but I could see an argument for C-.
