Elijah House is one of the nine houses here at DeSales High School. Ran by English teacher Mr. Burke and World Language teacher Ms. Lamkin, Elijah House shows the traits and characteristics that DeSales men strive to be, emphasizing faith, brotherhood, and tradition. Elijah House’s mascot is the Knights, which symbolizes strength, competitiveness, and teamwork. In this article I’ll talk about Prophet Elijah, (who the house is named after), the achievements Elijah House has accomplished, and what makes Elijah House special.
The Prophet Elijah was a legendary Israelite prophet and miracle-worker who lived around BC 900. He is well known for his various miracles and great impact on how people viewed God. Here are a few of his miracles that he has worked throughout his life.
The Drought - Elijah announced a severe drought against King Ahab because of promoting worship to other things except God
The Widow of Zarephath - He stayed with a poor widow, where his blessing kept her jar of flour and jug of oil from running dry, and he later raised her son from the dead.
Ascension to Heaven - Elijah did not suffer physical death, but instead he was taken up into heaven by a chariot of fire.
