On Friday August 29, the DeSales Colts played the Nelson County Cardinals in a game that came down to the wire. In the end, Nelson County got the job done winning 28-36. The game started off with the Cardinals getting a pick six on the first drive. The next drive, the Colts punted but gained possession back after a fumble recovery. Even with the fumble recovery, the Colts couldn’t score.
At the beginning of the second quarter, the Cardinals scored a touchdown after the Colts couldn’t secure the punt return. Before the extra point the Colts were offside allowing the two point conversion to be completed with ease. The very next drive the Cardinals were able to find the end zone making the score of the game 0-23. The Colts were able to capitalize on the next two drives by scoring two touchdowns shortening the lead to eight.
After halftime the Colts were able to force a fumble and score a touchdown in the same drive, shortening the Cardinals lead to one. Following this touchdown, the game was very back and forth with each team scoring a touchdown to end the quarter. The final quarter started with the Cardinals leading 28-29. The Cardinals scored a touchdown within the first five minutes on a QB sneak. After that touchdown both teams punted on their following drives giving the Colts the ball back with two minutes left in the game. The Colts started their last possession on their twenty yard line and were having difficulty gaining any yards. On fourth down the Colts threw the ball to the receiver who was tackled short of the first down giving the win to the Cardinals.
