For a long time, Football was consistent, with one team that loses and one team that wins. But ever since 2014, there has been one more result of a game. Scoragami, regardless of which team wins or loses, it is a win for everyone. A historical moment that is forever engraved in the history of man. The most recent NFL Scoragami as of this article’s writing was the Sunday night football game between the Cowboys and Packers, which ended in a tie, 40 - 40. As time progresses, Scoragami becomes rarer. But what is Scoragami?
Scoragami is a relatively new word in the language, having only been around for 15 years. Scoragami is a unique final score in football, such as the Cowboys-Packers game from earlier. Before Sunday, the 28th of 2025, a 40 to 40 tie had never been scored in NFL history until that fateful night. The reason Scoragami is so unique, especially for football, is the way points are scored. In all other sports other than football, scoring is typically done with 1 or 2 points. Football has a unique way of reaching every final score, only in increments of 2, 3, 6, or 7. Safeties are rare in the NFL, and missed extra points are rare as well, so most final scores are similar. There is only one way to score 1 point in football. When a team scores 6 and gets in the endzone, and they decide to go for 2, if the defending team can force a safety, they get a single point. This has never happened in the NFL as of the writing of this article. So in football, it is possible to see a final score of 6 to 1.
The Colts Celebrate after a win against Carrol County (2024)
The board you just saw was a graph created by me, it is of every final DeSales Football (varsity) score. This data only covers 1998 to 2025, as I could only find those records, but 27 years of games is still a large number of games. Later on, I may be able to find more data, and I will update this graph. Scoragami for DeSales is more interesting as we actively live these games; they all have a story to them, and each space on the graph is a story. One of the more recent Desales Scoragami was the CAL game from this year, 7 to 62. That game now sits on a throne of 7 to 62 forever; it may eventually have company there, but that game will always be the first to the finish line.
A couple of final scores are more frequent than others. There is a 3 way tie for the most frequent final scores, weirdly enough, they are all right next to each other. All 3 of these games have occurred 5 times in the last 27 years of DeSales: 40 to 13, 41 to 0, 42 to 0. Out of those 3, 41 to 0 stands out the most. With the other 2, we have also lost to that score before, but with 41 to 0, we have never lost in that way. The weird thing about this is that in the NFL, 20 to 17 is the most frequent score, but for DeSales, it has only been scored once.
These specific final scores highlighted in the image are final scores that I feel are special. First, the most alone score on the board. On Friday, October 10th, an undefeated DeSales Colts took on the winless Thomas Nelson Generals. It was 2013, the golden year for DeSales, a comeback from the final 4 loss in the playoffs the previous year. The Colts took out their anger in this game. We scored 42 points in the first quarter, and we allowed 0 passing yards and only 30 rushing yards. Our quarterback, Nathan Roush, would have a perfect game, going 2 for 2 with 2 touchdowns. We picked off the Generals just once, but forced 4 fumble recoveries during the game. In total, we scored 11 touchdowns, 2 through the air that we had already talked about, 2 scoop and score touchdowns, and 5 rushing touchdowns.
Now that the total only adds up to 9 touchdowns, the other 2 are lost to history; the statistician for this game didn't report where these other 2 came from. With only 1 extra point missed in the game, the final score was 76 to 0. This is the largest blowout in DeSales history, and this score surpasses the NFL record of 73. Sadly, we have only played Thomas Nelson 2 times in our history, both times in our championship years. They sadly moved up in divisions shortly after the 2014, 49 to 13 game, the Generals left for division 3A. Today, they sit in 4A, but maybe time will show, and the Generals and Colts may meet again.
The most combined points scored by both teams in DeSales history was 101. This game happened this year… Friday, September 15, 2025, the Colts faced an opponent we have only played 2 times before in our history. KCD beat the Colts 68 to 38. So far in our history, we have never beaten KCD, but 2 of those losses came in overtime. Both teams had a combined 1075 yards on the field. Our quarterback for the Colts, Cameron Bischoff, threw for 307 of those yards, and our wide receiver, Kingston Merritt, had 233 receiving yards. I don’t think we will ever see a game like this again, but time will tell.
2 games stand out to me due to the opponent in those games. We have only played them twice, and we beat them by the same score, 33. Prestonsburg met us in the state playoffs in 2007 and 2009. In the first matchup, we only allowed 20 points, and in the 2nd, we allowed 28. Both of these games were scoragmai, but sadly, the 2009 game is now accompanied by our 2023 North Oldham loss 28 - 33. Prestonsburg has stayed in 2A, and as of this article’s original creation, they are undefeated.
At the beginning of the Scoragami board, there are some extremely interesting games. The only ties that have ever happened in the last 27 years were due to COVID. 4 games were canceled in 2020 due to COVID, and sadly, this year marked the end of a period of football dominance that DeSales had; the next 2 seasons would be the worst 2 years in DeSales football history. The Colts would only win 2 games in the next 2 years. The 2 to 0 game was actually a forfeit, and this game came against Fort Knox, who failed to have enough players.
When I was originally compiling this list, I originally did wins only. As I placed data into the spreadsheet, I realized just how good DeSales is in football. This section will just be merely the Scoragami games that I found notable, that came from the playoffs. I won’t cover every single game, but I hope that I can show you the glory of DeSales football.
In 2005, DeSales was electric; they finished with the best record in their region (11-3). DeSales got sent to the playoffs, where every single game they played ended in a Scoragami. The Colts destroyed Garrard County 40 to 0, who had beaten the Colts 2 years earlier in their first appearance in the 2A state tournament in the 21st century. The Colts would continue until the final 4, where they lost to Owensboro Catholic 7 to 28. The other Scoragami games were a 27 to 21 win against Corbin and a 55 to 8 win against Western.
2007 and 2008 were great years for the Colts. Both times, we charged deep into the playoffs. In 2009, though, the Colts would achieve an 11 and 4 record and make it to the championship game. The Colts opened the playoffs with a 55 to 8 annihilation of Newport. We would score 8 touchdowns, 7 of which would be through the ground. DeSales would meet Fort Campbell for the first and last time in recorded history in the championship game. DeSales had the opportunity to stop the 3-peat for Fort Campbell but fell 9 to 29 final. Fort Campbell would establish an undefeated season.
In 2012, the Colts would make a return to the final 4. In the Elite 8 game, DeSales faced Glasgow, but this game would end with the only score on its lane. 10 to 2 would be the final score on the board. Glasgow was able to force a safety, but that was all the story wrote. Today, that Scoragami stands as the only game on the 10-row and the 2-column. Maybe one day we will see another safety, but time has yet to show its hand. The Colts would lose in the final 4 that year to Caldwell County (31 to 43).
The next 2 years are the most well-known in DeSales history. The Colts went all the way for back-to-back championships. Both years have the same record of 14 and 1. 2013 told a story of revenge; CAL would take down the Colts in a 24- 27 game in the regular season. Later in the year, DeSales and CAL would meet again in the Elite 8. In this game, we would shut them out 34 - 0. The championship game had similar results with a 34 to 26 final against Newport Central Catholic.
The next year, in 2014, we would face CAL again in the playoffs with a final score of 7 to 6. We had lost to them again in the regular season, but in a worse way than before, 17 to 0. In the championship, we matched again with Newport Central Catholic, but this time the game was not close at all. With a final of 26 to 0, we became back-to-back champions in 2A state. We almost completed the 3-peat in 2015, but fell to Mayfield 24 to 19 in the final 4. In 2016, we would lose 14 to 21 in the Elite 8 to the eventual 2A state champions, CAL. In 2019, we would reach the final 4 in the 3A state, but would fall to the eventual championship team, Belfry, 14 to 15 in double overtime. 2019 was the last time we have ever made it to the final 4.
Last year would have had a similar story to 2013 and 2014. The Colts finished the year with a 7 and 3 record. North Oldham had dealt DeSales a 23 to 54 loss in just the 2nd week of the season, but DeSales was heavily injured. We would go on to lose 2 more games, a 26 to 27 overtime loss at KCD and a 35 to 14 loss at John Hardin. In the 2nd round of the playoffs, North Oldham would come to DeSales this time, and the story was different. 39 to 29 would be the final score.
As of the upload of this article, there has been 2 new Scoragamis. The last game was a win at Garrard county 19 to 7 and that was a Scoragami. The game was played in the fog. Look below for a spreadsheet of all Scoragami.
