During the game on Friday September 19, Cameron Bischoff broke the school record for most passing yards in his career at DeSales. Cam passed for over 200 yards in the game against the Southern Trojans passing the previous holder, Payton Molter, in total yards in his career. After that game Cam had a total of over 3,890 yards throughout his years at DeSales. A few days later I caught up with Cam to get his thoughts about his season and how he accomplished these achievements.
In the interview, Cam mentioned he knew he was close to beating the record, but his main focus was on getting the win against Southern. For him the game against Southern was just another game. He prepared the same way by throwing the football around with Kingston, and played with the same intensity as every other game.
Cam said a big reason he has so many yards was with the help of his teammates. If you look at the stats, a receiver that had a big part in Cam’s throwing yards this year was Kingston Merritt. You can see their chemistry through working together in school projects, warming up together before games, celebrating after they score a touchdown, and they are both ranked top three in the state. Cam said in the interview that they have been working together since their freshman year, and all of the games and experiences have increased their chemistry and helped them perform better.
Another reason Cam has been able to break the record is by his ability to extend plays. At the beginning of the season, the offensive line was struggling to block, so Cam had to scramble outside of the pocket. Cam said that while he is scrambling out of the pocket to avoid the sack, he will also look down field for open receivers. He knows that some high school DBs aren't experienced enough to cover for more than 4-8 seconds.
Through Cam’s career he has exceeded the all time passing yards in their time at DeSales and is currently ranked top three in the state. Without the help of his teammates and coaches, he would have never been able to achieve all these accomplishments.
