On Thursday December 18 at roughly 10:15 am, a plane crashed at Statesville Regional Airport in North Carolina. According to officials, the airplane contained Nascar legend Greg Biffle and his family. There were 3 other people on the plane including Dennis Dutton, Jack Dutton, and Craig Wadsworth. This wreck shouldn't be the only way Greg is remembered. He had a career full of accomplishment on and off the track.
Greg started racing in the Nascar truck series in 1998. He dominated the division by finishing top 10 in three full seasons and winning a championship in his third year. After being very successful in the Truck series, he advanced in his career by moving to the Xfinity series in which he competed for 11 years. Greg’s career was also very successful in the Xfinity series by placing top 10 in every full season. He was also able to win the championship in his second full season as an Xfinity driver. In his second full season in the Xfinity series he won the championship.
Greg then continued his career by competing full time in the 2003 Cup series season. He was never able to win a championship in the Cup Series, but he placed top 3 in multiple seasons. Even though he didn’t win a championship, in every full season he placed in the top 23 or better. This is very impressive as there are about 36 drivers in the division.
Even after his racing career he was very successful off the track, by making tremendous efforts during Hurricane Helene rescue efforts. Greg made contributions to the relief effort by flying helicopters to rescue and give supplies to people who were stranded. He continued his effort for multiple days saving many lives. He talked about one story where he found someone who was using a mirror to gain his attention.
