My women's college volleyball power ten ranking
Nebraska
This is an obvious number one for me. The Huskers are a perfect 10-0 this season and they're heading into conference play this week. They have big wins over Pitt, Kentucky, and Stanford this year.
Texas
A lot of people are arguing that Texas should be number one due to having two more ranked wins than Nebraska, but I still think Nebraska is slightly more dominant and they are a better passing team. Texas is a close second to them though with big wins over Stanford, Louisville, Wisconsin, TCU and Arizona State. Torrey Stafford is looking like a strong candidate for national player of the year, and Cari Spears is in my opinion a lock for national freshman of the year as long as she stays healthy.
Pitt
Pitt got off to a slow start this season, but they've looked like their normal self since. Brooke Mosher has settled in as setter, and the reigning national player of the year, Olivia Babcock, has been as dominant as ever. They have a big sweep over Kentucky, and a big win over their rival Penn State on the road, as well as big wins over TCU and Arizona state.
Kentucky
After a strong performance against Louisville, Kentucky moves up in my rankings. They’re only 2 losses on the season are to top five teams, and Brooklyn DeLeye, and Eva Hudson are looking like the best outside hitter duo in the country.
Stanford
Stanford comes in at 5 after a solid start to the season with their only losses being to Nebraska and Texas. A lot of people would argue that Stanford could be over Kentucky because they have slightly better losses, but taking into account that Kentucky pushed Nebraska to five sets, this ranking feels right for Stanford.
Louisville
The cards drop to six for me after a hard fought loss against a good Kentucky team. This team still has a lot of potential, but also a lot of work to do. Cabello is doing a good job running the offense and Cara Cresse is living up to the hype. They just need to clean up their passing a little bit and this team could be back in the position they were in last year.
Wisconsin
Stanford, Louisville, and Wisconsin are pretty interchangeable for the five, six, and seven spots. I do think Stanford and Louisville have been slightly more impressive than Wisconsin. Wisconsin is really dangerous and I think people are really sleeping on them though. Grace Egan and Mimi Colyer have been impressive and Kristen Simon is an underrated libero who’s just a freshman.
TCU
TCU has been the biggest surprise this year. They have big wins over Penn State who was number two at the time and Texas A and M who was ranked eighth at the time. Evan Hendrix is having an incredible season and she's very underrated.
Purdue
Purdue has also been a huge surprise this season. With one loss to Georgia Tech, the Boilermakers also have big wins over Kansas, and SMU. It’s impressive that they lost five of their six starters and they’re still in this position.
SMU
I was going to put Arizona State at the 10 spot, but after pushing Pitt to five sets last night, SMU has proven that they deserve it. This could be controversial considering that they don’t have any big wins, but they’ve went toe to toe with the best in the country so far this year.
