Foxview Band program overview:
- Band is open to all fifth and sixth grade students, no prior instrumental music experience is necessary.
- Band class meets every other day all year, students receive both individual and small group lessons once every 4 school days, and there are two concerts, one in December, the other in May.
- The course goals of the Foxview Band program are to have fun while learning the fundamental skills involved in playing a musical instrument, further develop music theory, practice good listening and practice skills, and reinforce good practice habits.
- Students will meet with Foxview band directors when school starts and learn about which instrument choices they can start on which are the flute, clarinet, trumpet, and trombone. Students may audition for other instruments (saxophone, french horn, tuba, etc...) after they have completed one semester of playing one of these four main instruments with good effort and demonstrating good practice habits. Students interested in starting in percussion will first complete one semester on one of the main four instruments and then audition by taking a rhythm test and play a song for the band director(s) to show their ability to read music and keep good rhythm. If a student has 2 years of private music lessons outside of school on piano, guitar, etc.. a student can audition for the percussion section right away.
We learn and perform everyday in Band, and look forward to working with students that have the desire to learn a musical instrument so they may look forward to participating in the middle and high school band programs.
