City Mayor Herbert Bautista signed an ordinance establishing the Lucrecia R. Kasilag Senior High School in Barangay Veterans Village. Kasilag was named National Artist for Music in 1989. City Ordinance 2756-2018, that Councilor Julienne Alyson Rae Medalla introduced, states that the Local School Board (LSB) has recommended to name the Senior High School within Esteban Abada Elementary School as Lucrecia R. Kasilag Senior High School. Lucrecia R. Kasilag was known as an educator, composer, performing artist, administrator and cultural entrepreneur. She composed over 250 musical pieces, ranging from folk song arrangements, art songs, solo instrument compositions, chamber and orchestral works. She was known for blending western influences with indigenous Filipino music. Kasilag was also responsible for the establishment of the Bayanihan Folk Arts Center in 1957 which promotes the Philippines’ rich culture in different countries. Today, Lucrecia R. Kasilag Senior High School offers the Performing Arts strand to continue her legacy. A new theater art's building is being built in her honor to become the pioneering spirit of her love for music, culture, and preserving the culture of the Filipino people.
