“TRASH TO CASH”
I. Rationale:
Inappropriate solid waste management practices in Bagong Pag-Asa Elementary School constitute one of the major factors leading to declined school conditions. Major problems perceived with current refuse disposal methods by the pupils were odors, pest infestation, and spillages. Common methods of solid waste disposal were the use of dustbins for collection. Littering and spillages of solid waste was also a common feature. Paper and plastics were the most frequently generated wastes seen and the lack of trash bins contributed to waste spillages. Also, odors have arisen from both the decay of overstored organic waste rich in moisture. This predicament compromised school environmental quality.
Due to the unpleasing situation, Bagong Pag-Asa Elementary School in collaboration with the Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) continuously implements the comprehensive school waste management system. YES-O officers have been trained by their YES-O adviser MRS. GINA S. MORTEGA and proponent of the project as well as the Master Teacher In-Charge, MS. CAMILLE Y. IDOLOR on the proper ways in waste segregation and garbage disposal. While performing the said action, the benefit has derived that trash can be made into cash.
Bagong Pag-Asa Elementary School is now in the first year of project implementation; the “TRASH TO CASH Project”. Paramount purpose of this project is” EARNING” while promoting the cleanliness and orderliness of the school.
Projects are not widely put into effect of having a small amount of circulating funds at hand incurred in last year's project income. As an organization, additional funds are needed to carry out existing programs and activities.
In connection with this, the TRASH TO CASH Project is hereby proposed.
