Project I CARE or Project: I Conserve, Act and Recycle for the Environment of YES-O Pulo NHS is a program comprises environmental activities such as conservation of water and electricity, home based tree and vegetable planting, online awareness campaigns, proper waste management, putting up Materials Recovery Facility, clean-up drive and the use of Eco bricks.
The overall goal of this project is not just to educate the students, parents, and school personnel the importance of taking an urgent action in helping the environment, and about the positive impact of these initiatives in the surroundings but also, to empower the whole community to be part of this project.
GAWAD SIKLAB Regional Level Qualifier
Pulo NHS was recognized as the most outstanding YES-O implementer in the Division of Cabuyao. Also, Janna Rein Octaviano and Jan Teri Engay, were awarded as the most outstanding YES-O student leader and most outstanding YES-O teacher adviser respectively. The organization became the City Division's representative for regional level.
Eco-Bricking Trash to Treasure Project
In partnership of MALAYAN Colleges of Laguna and with the support of the school community Eco-Bricks: Trash to Treasure Projects was implemented. This project aims to lessen the solid waste materials that the students are producing by practicing the 5R’s and by making eco-bricks out of their plastic waste.
Since there are no face-to-face classes this project was held on their respective home. To strengthen the participation and support of our students we asked the Araling Panlipunan teachers to integrate our goal in their subject.
Plastic Free Environment Campaign
Continuous education of learners about the value of our environment, its current status, and possible solutions on how to take care of our nature is important. In connection to this, the YES-O adviser in partnership with the Araling Panlipunan and other departments of Pulo National High School, conducted a symposium about “Plastic Free Environment”. In this symposium the harmful effect of plastic waste was discussed. The discussant Mr. Jan Teri Engay, elaborated the 5 R’s on how learners can help to prevent the problems even at home, he also encouraged learners to participate in eco-bricking project of the said organization, he showed how ecobricks can help with the advocacy of the school in taking good care of our mother earth.
Philippine Environment Month 2020 (Poster & Slogan Making Contest)
In celebration of Philippine Environment Month 2020, the organization organized a poster & slogan contest for the students. In this contest different environmental issues and actions were shown through posters and slogans.
Climate Change Conference
In celebration of the Climate Change Consciousness Week, the National Day of Youth for Climate Action and 4th National Climate Conference the Department of Education (DepEd), through the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service (DRRMS) and Bureau of Learner Support Services – Youth Formation Division (BLSS-YFD), in collaboration with Save the Children Philippines, conducted an online learning session on climate change for learners where the Pulo NHS YES-O president together with her adviser attended.
The activity focuses on enhancing the knowledge of the participants on climate change and its impact on their lives and to identify strategies on climate change mitigation and adaptation.
QuaranTrees
Though implementing environmental projects like tree planting were difficult during this time of pandemic, the organization was able to organized a home-based tree planting activity. In this activity students, parents and teachers were encouraged to plant trees in their home. Participants with no seedlings to plant were encouraged to plant any kind of plants in their home.
Earth Day Tree Planting
In support and celebration of Earth Day, the organization organized another home-based tree planting, where students, parents, teachers and other stakeholders participated.
