It was the beginning of the school year 2009-2010 when the Sta. Catalina Sangguniang Bayan, with the support of Mayor Ruben Melodia, Nagbinlod's Barangay Council, Secondary Principals/School Heads and the DepEd Division of Negros Oriental, pushed through the initiative of opening high schools in different barangays of the municipality. Nagbinlod was one of the very suitable locations for a new high school considering its population and accessibility.
At first, Nieva Mae Quitay was the only teacher assigned to the school. Haide A. Mojello came in January, 2010 and was designated as TIC to replace Ms. Nieva Mae who happened to transfer a yaer. Teacher-aides, in the person of Riza Sarino came in July 2010, Merma GOnzales and Jennifer ablay in August 2010 to July 2011. Vinus Cuba came in September 2011. Another teacher-aide Ginny Paul Gabuan came in July 2012 to March 2013. Teachers-aide come-and-go for greener pasture especially when they are hired as regular teacher. Mrs. Haide resigned being the School of NHS and Ms Vinus took her place and became the TIC in June 2013 to October 2014. Additional teacher with item Annabel Sy came in June 2013 and Ameda Grace Traces ib July 2014. Marialos C. Quitay came in November 6, 2014 in leau of Ms. Vinus after her resignation and was transferred to Obat HS. During the first 3 years of NHS while the 2 CL Building was still under construction in the donated one-hectare lot of Mr. Antonio Carballo, Mr. Lito Obanaña, the school head of NAgbinlod Elementary School, offered an area, in their campus for a makeshift room to be built. Now, NHS has its third batch graduates this S.Y. 2014-2015.
The name of the school is named after the name of the barangay where the school is located.
The school was founded by the Local Government of Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental in order to cater the educational needs of the youth in the barangay. It was established in June 2009 and it is situated in the sitio Cogon consisting a total land area of 10,000 square meters. The area is plain and sandy-loam. The school site is presently owned by the Department of Education.
It started enrolling First Year students with 1 teacher, later the enrolment increased and is now a complete public secondary school composed of 5 Teachers-regular including the School Head.
