Since the outbreak of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, people have been affected globally in terms of access to health, education and markets, financial resources, and vulnerabilities and shocks. These effects are more pronounced for women and girls due to lockdowns, social distancing, decision-making power, and lack of access to information, services, and support systems.
VAW is one of the country’s pervasive social problems and various measures and mechanisms have been employed and implemented to address it. One of which is the 18-Day Campaign to End VAW,
an advocacy campaign that is observed annually from November 25 to December 12 as mandated by Proclamation 1172 s. 2006.
As part of the said celebration, SLES posted a banner greeting all women. The banner was exhibited near the main gate of the school. Many people, especially the mothers, were pleased upon seeing the banner. San Lorenzo Teaching Force used social media which is Facebook to promote the 18 Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women by changing their profile picture with the caption theme “VAW-free community starts with Me”.
Mrs. Etchel G. Par, School GAD Coordinator, and Mrs. Yvette M. Preclaro, School Principal requested the teachers to use the Official 2020 VAWC frame, as prescribed by the Philippine Women’s Commission (PWC), in their Facebook profile pictures. They also used School’s Facebook account to share posts and online campaigns regarding the VAWC.
In addition, SLES was so lucky to have a free VAWC T-shirt sponsored by Barangay Committee Chairman for Gender and Development, William L. Labay. All the teachers participated on the Zoom Meeting with a topic EndVAWinIbaDupay. (Etchel G. Par, EGT-I, SLES)
