It was opened in June 1975. Its former name was Lucena North III Elementary School. It started with 4 teachers and 149 learners. Through the effort of the Head Teacher, Mrs. Concordia Talabong, Rev. Fr. Herminigildo Lagustan (parish priest of St. Isidore) agreed to use the building near the church as classroom for Grades I to IV classes.
In June 1977 two extension classes for Grades V and VI were added. Mrs. Arminda Edaňo was the principal with 6 teachers and 205 learners. The first commencement exercise was held in 1978 with 39 graduates. In the middle part of 1978 Mrs. Elena Dialola donated 1,026 square meters of land for school site. It is situated in San Lorenzo Subdivision in Barangay Ibabang Dupay, Lucena City. Through this subdivision the name Lucena North III was changed to San Lorenzo Elementary School.
From 1978 to 2001, the two-storey building were constructed as sponsored by Congressman Marcial C. Punzalan, Jr. Respectively, the additional buildings were made possible under the leadership of Mr. Benedicto Licardo.
School years 2002 – 2004 were considered to be the school’s Silver Years with Mr. Amadeo B. Rosales. As the principal, the school had more improvements. A two–storey building funded by the Local Government Unit under City Mayor Ramon Y. Talaga Jr. was constructed for the Grade III classrooms. Pupils bagged awards in contests.
The new two – storey building with 4 classrooms and a multi-purpose hall was officially turned over to SLES with Mr. Guillermo M. Flores as Principal in 2006.
In 2008 – 2014, Mrs. Editha B. Huelva led efforts to make SLES grow. More educational programs were initiated and being implemented as the school’s response to the challenges and demands of the present. The school continued to serve as a catalyst in providing learners with more effective and relevant school experiences. It continued to envision itself as a standard of excellence and integrity in the academe, an institution committed to active participation in building a highly urbanized, technologically advanced and humane Filipino Society. This legacy was continued by Mrs. Jocelyn R. Abellanosa, principal, November 2014-February 2015 and Mrs. Nancy D. La Rosa, OIC-Principal, February 2015, May-July 2015 and then followed by Engr. Susana A, Gabiola OIC-Principal, April-May 2015.
With Mrs. Evelyn P. Lacerna, school head from July 2015-July 2018, this institution builds a highly motivated team of well-trained, competent, effective and empowered “child-friendly” personnel in order to lead in providing access to quality and relevant education, create shifts in education necessary for our active participation in rapidly changing global community, and maintain the highest ethical standards, sense of responsibility and fairness with respect to its stakeholders.
Currently, the school is being headed by Mrs. Yvette M. Preclaro, Principal II. There were numerous innovative programs that have been launched to consistently maintain the high-quality standards of education. And to also lessen the increasing numbers of non-numerates, the program Math Tinda was launched and creating every significant corner of the school a place every learner can read.
Many facilities were added and renovated through the generous help of the GPTA. The school is indeed fortunate that there are sponsors who willingly donated and had helped the school to further improve for the sake of our stakeholders. It is always an opportunity to sustain both academics and learners’ welfare providing stakeholders an avenue of a positive environment conducive to learning while at the same time promoting a comfortable place that minimizes distraction and hazards among all types of learners.
Through the leadership of Mrs. Yvette M. Preclaro, the school will continuously achieve academic brilliancy, efficacy and significance and excellence. All of these and more as San Lorenzo Elementary School scales new heights today and beyond!
