ARTS 9 MODULE 2 QUARTER 2: RENAISSANCE AND BAROQUE ARTS ( FUNCTIONS, INFLUENCES AND CHARACTERISTICS)

Researches and studies were made and created by different art enthusiasts around the world but despite numerous availability of several courses in art history and appreciation, it will still take several hours and somehow a longer period of individual study to really get a grasp of the similarities and differences of Renaissance and Baroque Period. Art experts know that if an artwork, a painting or sculpture is made in Europe between 1300 and 1600, it’s likely a Renaissance work. And, if it’s a European work made between 1600 and 1750, then it’s Baroque. But the difficulty lies in the fact that if you don’t know the dates of a work, or if you don’t know the particular artist and supporting details on their background the artist lived, how can we tell if it’s Baroque or Renaissance? After going through this module, you are expected to:

1. reflects on and derive the mood, idea or message from selected artworks

2. discusses the use or function of artworks by evaluating their utilization and combination of art elements and principles

3. uses artworks to derive the traditions/history of an art period

4. compares the characteristics of artworks produced in the different art periods

5. explains the influence of iconic artists belonging to the Renaissance and the Baroque periods

6. applies different media techniques and processes to communicate ideas, experiences, and stories showing the characteristics of the Renaissance and the Baroque periods (Fresco, Sfumato, etc.)

7. evaluates works of art in terms of artistic concepts and ideas using criteria from the Renaissance and the Baroque periods

8. shows the influences of the Renaissance and Baroque periods on the Philippine art form
