SCHOOL CURRENT SITUATION
A. Introducing the School
Danapa Elementary School, with school ID 132087, has been serving the community of Sitio Danapa, Purok 22, Tungao, Butuan City since its establishment in 1960. The school offers a complete basic education program, from kindergarten through elementary grades. Located three kilometers from the Tungao barangay proper, reaching the school can be challenging, especially during the rainy season. While land transportation is available, a single motor or "bajaj" is often preferred due to the slippery and difficult road conditions. The school is situated on approximately one hectare of donated land. Currently, the staff comprises a School Head, six teachers, one Administrative Officer (AO), one Project Development Officer (PDO), and one Job Order.
B. School Performance on Access
The school experienced a notable drop in enrollment, decreasing by 14 students from 86 in School Year (SY) 2023-2024 to 74 in SY 2024-2025. This 16.28% reduction highlights a significant decline that requires immediate attention. In response to this trend, the school has launched Project LEAP (Learners Engagement, Aspiration and Participation for Educational Development). This initiative aims to tackle the root causes of the enrollment gaps, specifically focusing on two key issues: families struggling with poverty and the school's limited outreach programs.
C. School concerns on Equity and Inclusion
It acknowledges the diverse backgrounds, strengths, and challenges of its students. However, the school faces two critical issues that hinder this inclusive ideal: recorded 1 case of bullying and insufficient support for 5 Learners with Special Needs (LSNs). When LSNs are also targets of bullying, their vulnerability is significantly heightened, underscoring the urgent need for direct intervention. To address these concerns, the school has launched Project PROTECT (Protect the Right Of Teachers and Learners through Advocacy Campaign and Trainings). This initiative aims to eliminate bullying incidents and ensure that LSNs are properly identified, screened, and provided with the necessary support.
D. School Performance on Quality
The National Achievement Test (NAT) results for SY 2023-2024 show an overall school Mean Percentage Score (MPS) of 69.22%, placing students in the "Nearly Proficient" category. This indicates that learners generally meet the minimum required skills in problem-solving, information management and communication, and data analysis and evaluation. To further elevate these outcomes, especially given the current MPS, the school is launching Project PISA (Proficient and Improved School Academic Performance). Over the next three years, this project aims to increase the school's overall NAT MPS from 69.22% to 71% by focusing on continuous capacity building for teachers and providing targeted support for learners across all subject areas (Filipino, Math, English, Science, and Araling Panlipunan).
Moreover, the latest Mean Percentage Score (MPS) of 78% is commendable, surpassing the division target of 75%. However, the school recognizes that continuous improvement is vital. An MPS of 78% indicates that there's still a significant portion of the curriculum where students haven't achieved full mastery, highlighting the need for sustained and refined educational efforts. To this end, Project PISA (Proficient and Improved School Academic Performance) has been initiated. This project aims to further boost the school's overall MPS in all learning areas from 78% to 79% over the next three years, reinforcing the commitment to higher academic achievement.
A critical challenge at Danapa Elementary School is the significant number of Key Stage 1 learners identified as needing full refresher intervention. This clearly points to foundational learning gaps that, if not addressed early, will severely impact their future academic success. To tackle this, the school has launched Project GEAR-UP (Gearing-up towards literacy through Effective Activities in Reading, Upskilling and Partnership). Over the next three years, this project aims to reduce the number of full refresher Key Stage 1 learners from 7 to 4, ensuring a stronger foundation for their educational journey.
E. School concerns Resilience and Well-being
A truly vibrant school goes beyond academics, offering students diverse opportunities to develop their talents and engage in extracurricular activities. However, Danapa Elementary School's current data reveals low participation rates in contests and competitions. This indicates a significant barrier: a lack of funds and time for adequate training and preparation. To address this, the school is launching Project ACTION (Accommodating Children and Teachers' Talent & Skills for Opportunities and Nurturance), with the objective of increasing overall student participation in these valuable experiences.
In addition, the safety and well-being of everyone at our school are top priorities. Our recent assessment, however, reveals a poor performance in disaster preparedness, an area that urgently needs comprehensive attention. To address this, we've launched Project SAFE (Safe and Assiduous School Friendly Environment). Over the next three years, Project SAFE aims to develop resilient learners who are knowledgeable about their rights and equipped with the life skills necessary to protect themselves, assert their rights, and respect the rights of others, fostering productive Filipino citizens. This will be achieved by conducting seven School Disaster Risk Reduction Management (SDRRM) activities over the project's duration.
Finally, the recent Healthy Learning Institution (HLI) Self-Assessment achieved a satisfactory rating. This indicates that our current initiatives to create a safe, supportive, and health-promoting environment for both students and staff are generally meeting expectations. To build on this success, Project HLI (Healthy Learning Institution) has been launched. Its objective is to elevate the school's HLI rating from Satisfactory (S) to Very Satisfactory (VS) within the next three years.
F. School concerns on Enabling Mechanisms
The school's buildings and facilities currently pose a significant challenge to the health, safety, and overall learning environment for everyone. Assessments show that the deteriorating infrastructure presents serious risks that need immediate and strategic attention. To address this, we're launching Project REHAB (Recalibration of Educational facilities for Healthier & Assiduous environment through rehabilitation of school Building and other facilities). Over the next three years, Project REHAB aims to rehabilitate and upgrade 80% of the school's identified high-risk buildings and facilities, ensuring they meet current standards for health, safety, and accessibility.
Lastly, the most valuable resource is its dedicated six teaching and two non-teaching personnel. Their ongoing growth directly influences the quality of education and supports to provide. However, current assessments show low participation rates in professional development and other growth initiatives. This presents a missed opportunity to enhance our human capital and achieve our school improvement goals. To address this, we've launched Project STAND (Seminar and Trainings for Teachers' Advancement, Nurturance & Development). Over the next three years, Project STAND aims to boost the capacity, functional, and leadership competencies of all six teaching and three non-teaching personnel, ensuring they can efficiently and effectively deliver basic education services.
Danapa Elementary School's financial resources are set to significantly increase, with its annual Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE) allocation rising from Php 282,000 in the previous fiscal year to Php 540,000 in 2025, as per the National Expenditure Program - General Appropriations Act (NEP-GAA). Beyond this government funding, the school actively maintains strong linkages and partnerships with various stakeholders and community partners. These collaborations are crucial, enabling Danapa Elementary School to secure additional support and resources, ultimately empowering it to deliver quality education effectively. The school has one Marcos type building with two rooms, two local school board building with 2 rooms each, one DepEd standard building with two classrooms and a new DPWH donated building served as school clinic and school heads office. With this, the school has no excess classrooms used as Healthy Learning Hub (HLH) and storage facility.
