The Philippine Informal Reading Inventory (Phil-IRI) is a reading assessment tool implemented at New Tubigon Elementary School to determine learners’ reading levels in both English and Filipino. It is designed to evaluate three key components: oral reading, silent reading, and reading comprehension. The results help identify learners who need reading intervention and support the development of appropriate instructional strategies to improve literacy.
The administration of Phil-IRI is guided by DepEd Order No. 14, s. 2018, which institutionalizes the use of the tool across all public elementary and secondary schools. It supports the Department of Education's commitment to enhancing reading proficiency and ensuring that every learner can access and understand written texts appropriate to their grade level.
The data gathered from Phil-IRI also contributes to literacy profiling, program planning, and school-based reading initiatives to close learning gaps and promote a culture of reading.
