The school is a very significant institution in the society.it is tasked to educate the young people who will constitute the working force of the country. Hence, the establishment of a learning institution in any part of the nation is one big dream to fulfil.
The setting-up of a high school in Matucay, Allacapan, Cagayan was through the joint initiative of Mr. Romeo Castillejos who was then the principal of Matucay Elementary and Barangay Captain Teodoro U. Tolentino. The school was instituted through a resolution submitted and approved by Mr. Peregrino Alan of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports.
In 1975, an order was given to open the said school for first year enrolees. Mr. Romeo Castillejos and his wife Mrs. Imelda Pacleb, served as the pioneer teachers.
It was never easy for the school to immediately provide all necessities needed in the implementation of quality education. There were problem met like to salaries and benefits for the teachers, transportation of the students from and to school, more conducive school buildings and other related problems.
However, with the strong determination of the administrator, the teachers and the local officials, and the parents and their children, more and more enrolees came in despite scarcity of educational resources
The Matucay Barangay High School was officially proclaimed as Matucay National High School in 1988 by virtue of Republic Act 6655 and Executive Order Number 189 kwon as the Nationalization of all barangay high school.
While the population of the school was increasing because enrolees south-eastern Barangays of Ballesteros and western barangays of Aparri were coming, then the need for educational sources need also to be improved.
As the school was going on it's advancement and development, the school authorities acted upon the official paper of the school site. This was the demand for the school to be granted with SEDP package building as mandated in the Executive Order #189 and Republic Act 665
