History
Established in 1968, Lidong Elementary School has a unique history rooted in a territorial dispute between the municipalities of Caramoan and Garchitorena. While the area was originally part of Garchitorena (formerly Anderson) upon its creation, residents petitioned in the 1960s to return to their mother municipality, Caramoan.
Driven by the community’s desire for local education, Caramoan provided the sponsorship necessary to establish the school. For 55 years, the institution has remained a cornerstone of the community. Today, the school maintains deep local roots, with the majority of its faculty being residents of the village. For the 2025–2026 school year, the school is staffed by seven dedicated teaching ang non-teaching serving the student body.
THE PLACE
Location and Accessibility
Lidong is one of the most remote barangays in Caramoan, situated right on the boundary between the municipalities of Caramoan and Garchitorena. Despite its distance, the village is quite accessible for visitors.
From the Caramoan town proper, take a bus (such as MRR or Florencia) to Barangay Maligaya. Upon arrival, you will find plenty of friendly habal-habal (motorcycle taxi) drivers ready to assist you.
When speaking with the driver, it is best to ask for "Dagang"—the local nickname for Barangay Lidong. This avoids confusion with another Barangay Lidong located in the nearby municipality of Presentacion. The standard fare is approximately 100 pesos for a solo ride, or 50 pesos each if you are sharing the ride with another passenger.
