Koronadal National Comprehensive High School (formerly the Koronadal Junior High School) was established in 1947, in a then dense cogonal area of 79,000 square meters in Barangay Zone IV, City of Koronadal, South Cotabato.
Through Republic Act No. 5550, sponsored by Hon. James Chiongbian, Koronadal Junior High School was changed to be now known as the Koronadal National Comprehensive High School on July 1, 1970. This change to a national comprehensive high school paved the way for more improvements and opportunities for growth of the institution.
Carved in the landmarks of the school were the original founders’ names: Mr. Atanacio Dohina, the late Alejandro Poticar, Roberto Alabado, Melchor Falle and Martin Dideles. Their stamina and encouragement led to the construction of a temporary building enough to house an enrolment of 184 students starting with three sections in the First year and one section in the Second Year.
As to its educators, it was Mr. Martin Dideles who supervised the first teaching staff of the school, while the first principal was Mr. Basiliso Baptista. More teachers were then added as enrollment increased.
When Ariston Viloria retired in 1985 as Principal III, Mrs. Edith Baptista was promoted to Principal IV and took over as the new school head. Thereafter, different individuals were designated to head the school temporarily.
On August 22, 2005, Mr. Fernando C. Hilomen returned to KNCHS and was installed as the new principal. Known as an experienced instructional leader and a man of action, he started the campaign of bringing back the glory of the school. New buildings were added and old ones were remodeled, repaired, and repainted. He encouraged the teaching personnel of the school to help achieve excellence in all areas.
KNCHS then has two annex schools. In August 2005, the KNCHS Bacongco Campus was opened, with Dr. Belen Fajemolin as its teacher-in-charge. However, Dr. Fajemolin was transferred to another school, thus, in January 3, 2007, Mr. Valentin Dignadice Jr. took over the Bacongco Campus, with 425 students and 9 teaching personnel.
In June 2006, the KNCHS Saravia Campus was opened, with Mr. Gil Subang as its first teacher-in-charge. The said campus started with 125 students and 5 teaching personnel. In 2009, another annex was opened in Barangay Paraiso, City of Koronadal, with Mr.Wilmer Fetalino as teacher-in -charge.
In May 2013, Mr. Fernando Hilomen retired from public service and Mr. Mario Madrero then took over as the school’s Principal OIC.
The emphatic mantra of reaching the less privileged and deserving students to receive the best quality education has maintained the recognized reputation of the school locally and nationally. The aim of providing education for all and in all grade levels in the basic secondary education continues to thrive. Thus, the first step towards the formation of a senior high school in the crown city in South Central Mindanao came in 2016, which marked the start of the Philippine educational system’s full shift to the K to 12 programs.
The almost 10,000 square meters of land within the KNCHS premises became the birthing hub of one of the biggest senior high schools in SOCCSKSARGEN. The first year of school operations in 2016 under Mr. Valentin C. Dignadice, Jr. as its principal, Mary Anne D. Prejas as the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Assistant Senior High School (SHS) Principal for Academics and Randy L. Pendilla being the OIC – Assistant SHS Principal for Operations and Learner Support set a high confidence of enrolling a higher number of students despite the proliferation of other public and private senior high schools.
Jeanny L. Castre, replacing Mary Anne D. Prejas as OIC – Asst SHS Principal lasted for almost 4 months. The assumption of the new school leadership took place in November of the current year which paved the way for a newfangled tandem of two assistant principals – Fernando L. Nequinto as Asst. SHS Principal for Academics and Giovanni R. Estaris assuming the responsibility as Asst. SHS Principal for Operations and Learner Support. These institution’s captains are also accompanied by the three assiduous subject group heads of SHS—Richard P. Moral Jr. for HUMSS, Ivy C. Fedoc for STEM and ABM, and Reynold P. Macailing for TVL. All, flagging their own leadership style, concern more on the continued progress and expansion of the school community in terms of providing school needs and benefit package for teachers and students.
Projected as a growing school, KNCHS – SHS began with 849 Grade 11 students, who were mostly homegrown students of its junior high school. The pioneering batch became the first group of senior high school completers to have occupied the 18 rooms of the new buildings in the site.
Hearty student support was shown in the next school year when 1288 Grade 11 students enrolled, and a short downturn of Grade 12 students from 849 to 800. Currently, these students are enjoying the program offerings of two full years of senior high school which include Accountancy Business Management, Humanities and Social Sciences, Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics, and Technical Vocational. As the school approached maximum student capacity, new buildings were constructed and other school needs were addressed.
On January 3, 2025, we proudly usher in a new chapter in the history of Koronadal National Comprehensive High School (KNCHS) with the appointment of Principal IV Ma. Fe Lita S. Yparraguirre. This moment marks a significant milestone, as she becomes the first principal from the elementary level to be entrusted with leadership in the high school setting.
Her administration symbolizes not only progress but also a steadfast commitment to service. Guided by the values of integrity, compassion, and transparency, Principal Yparraguirre stands determined to lead with vision and dedication, ensuring that every learner is nurtured, every teacher is supported, and every member of the school community is inspired to strive for excellence.
As we welcome this new era, we look forward with optimism and confidence, knowing that under her leadership, KNCHS will continue to uphold its proud tradition of quality education while embracing innovation and inclusivity for the future.
