The Alternative Learning System is a parallel learning system in the Philippines that provides a practical option to the existing formal instruction. When one does not have or cannot access formal education in schools, ALS is an alternate or substitute.

The National Maintenance Week will start on May 15 to 20, 2017 nationwide. Its theme is “Isang DepEd, Isang Pamayanan, Isang Bayanihan para sa Handa at Ligtas na Paaralan.” Students, teachers, school personnel, volunteers, organizations, PTA officers and barangay officials are enjoined to participate, help, and support the nearest school where they reside or where their kids are enrolled for the school year 2017 – 2018.
Feeding Program
To address undernutrition and short-term hunger among public school children, the Department of Education (DepEd), through the School Health Division-Bureau of Learner Support Services (SHD-BLSS), implements the School-Based Feeding Program (SBFP) for School Year (SY) 2016-2017.Under the program, all schools are asked to establish and maintain the Gulayan sa Paaralan Program (GPP) as a source of ingredients for the SBFP and encourage the families of beneficiaries to have their own home garden for the continuous nutritional improvement at home.
In-Service Training (INSET)
The INSET is a program mandated by the GASTPE Law (R.A. 8545) that emphasizes the need for the DepEd to implement programs improve the quality of education the country by maximizing the use of resources in the private education sector.
Sec. 12 of R.A. 8545 provides the INSET Fund for the purpose of improving the quality of teaching in the private secondary education and to provide for the upgrading of content and teaching competencies in critical subject areas and for innovative teaching techniques and strategies, to include multi media and other technologies to assist instruction.
