The David M. Puzon Memorial National High School was established in May 2000, through the initiative and efforts of Hon. Jovencita G. Puzon and Hon. Edgar R. Lara, the then Governor of Cagayan. The country was still in economic chaos; schools were not that accessible.
It was in the second millennium that the Puzon clan represented by the former ABC President Hon. Jovencita G. Puzon concretized a life-long dream and promise to the Cagayan electorate particularly in the Municipality of Pamplona of founding a school which can offer quality and relevant basic secondary education. At the time, a need to establish a secondary institution in the vicinity of barangay Curva was felt.
Hon. Jovencita G. Puzon had a great dream. She had dreamed that after the second millennium, there would be a great need for the secondary schools to cater the increasing number of high school enrollees. During that period, the people of Barangay Curva felt that there was a need of high school institution in their barangay to house and accommodate the growing population of high school students in their locality and in other barangays of the nearby towns as well. Thus, on May 3, 2003, through the initiative of Hon. Jovencita G. Puzon and with the efforts of the then Cagayan Governor, Hon. Edgar Ramones Lara, the David M. Puzon Memorial National High School was born.
The DMPMNHS started modesty. Its initial office and classrooms were located at Curva Elementary School.
Hand in hand with the school’s academic expansion, its physical facilities and structures were also being improved and expanded. To accommodate the growing number of enrollees, administration and classroom buildings were built in the two-hectare lot generously donated by the heirs of the late David M. Puzon. This is located at Curva, Pamplona, Cagayan.
The DMPMNHS teaching staff went through different administrations and heads with different leadership styles. During its initial operation, the teaching force was headed by Principal Yolanda M. Pascual. Mr. Regienald Biri became the officer-in-charge while waiting for qualified head teacher to man the school. In the year 2005, Mrs. Tessie J. Molina of PNSF assumed the DMPMNHS administration and became the school’s officer in-charge until June of 2005.
Then through the able leadership of Mr. Alejandro A. Bangay, he headed the David M. Puzon Memorial National High School Family. Sir Mark as he is fondly called by his colleagues started as an English teacher in the year 2003 at DMPMNHS. But with his qualifications and experiences, he became the officer in-charge in June 2005 when Mrs. Tessie J. Molina transferred and became principal of Iluru National High School in Rizal, Cagayan. After two years, Sir Mark was promoted as head teacher III but when he passes the principalship examination on December 9, 2006, he became the brand-new principal of DMPMNHS with an appointment dated December 10, 2007. From this year until June 2014, the school became popular/well-known because of Mr. Bangay’s active leadership and managerial approaches. In his stay at David M. Puzon Memorial National High School for 11 fruitful years not only awards from the division and regional level were received but also national achievements were attained by the school and he was promoted to Principal II. In June 2014 he was transferred to Libertad National High School so Mr. Abraham C. Acosta, the Head Teacher III of the school became the Officer-In-Charge from June 2014 to August 2014.
From September 2014 to September 2017, the school was headed by Mrs. Venus D. De Guzman, Principal I. The brand-new lady principal Ma’am Venus maintained what the school had already achieved.
Thru the mandate of the Department of Education Schools Division Office of Cagayan, Dr. Gilbert I. Colosaga, principal II of Matucay National High School came to this institution. Great achievements on his term is perceived.
The dream had become the mission. The DMPMNHS is now soaring high and continuously making its name in the limelight with its vision “The DMPMNHS envisions the total development of every Filipino learner s in terms of his learning capacity, leadership potentials and desirable attitudes and values for him to perform well his part towards the building of just, humane, healthy and progressive community” and its mission “To provide every Filipino Learner, irrespective of economic status and culture, the inherent right and free access to quality and relevant basic education.
