Capiz Educators Shine at 2025 Regional Research Showdown in Iloilo City
The 2025 Regional Research Showdown, held from December 3 to 5, 2025 at Sotogrande Hotel, Green Meadows, Jaro, Iloilo City, highlighted outstanding research excellence and innovation among educators across the region, with Capiz Division researchers earning notable recognition in multiple competitive categories.
Leading the division’s achievements, Dr. Ronald D. Artillero, Head Teacher I of Panitan National High School, was awarded 1st Runner-Up in the Best Research Impact category. His research was recognized for its significant contribution to educational practice, policy relevance, and measurable outcomes that directly benefit learners and schools.
Capiz Division also demonstrated strong performance in the Best Research Exhibit category, with Dr. Marggie A. Obligacio, Senior Education Program Specialist (SEPS) in Planning and Research, and Dr. Aileen Isiderio, Head Teacher III of Sapian National High School, both emerging as finalists. Their exhibits showcased evidence-based innovations and well-documented research processes that underscored the division’s commitment to quality research and informed decision-making.
Further strengthening Capiz’s presence in the regional competition, Dr. Zandie B. Ponce, Teacher III of Ilawod Elementary School, qualified as a finalist in the Best Research Poster category, presenting research findings in a clear, visually compelling, and academically sound manner. Meanwhile, Fatima S. Bolido, Master Teacher I of Capiz National High School, earned finalist recognition in Best Research Paper and Presentation, demonstrating depth of analysis, clarity of presentation, and strong alignment with educational priorities.
The Regional Research Showdown serves as a premier platform for educators to share research outputs, exchange best practices, and promote a culture of inquiry and innovation in the education sector. Advancing Educational Excellence: Highlights from the SHOWDOWN Research Forum 2024
The air inside the MVW Hotel and Restaurant along Roxas Avenue buzzed with excitement on the morning of November 8, 2024. Teachers, researchers, and education leaders from across the division gathered for the much-anticipated SHOWDOWN Research Forum. Colorful banners welcomed the participants as they entered the venue, eager to share their studies and innovations. Everyone could feel that it was going to be a meaningful day of learning and collaboration.
The program opened with warm welcome remarks from Dr. Edna B. Azcarraga, the Education Program Supervisor and OIC of the Office of the Chief Education Supervisor under the School Governance and Operations Division. Her words set the tone for the event—encouraging every teacher-researcher to embrace curiosity, innovation, and continuous improvement. She reminded everyone that research is not just a requirement, but a powerful tool to create real impact in schools.
After the opening message, the audience listened to the inspiring message of Dr. Luz U. Banson, OIC of the Office of the Assistant Schools Division Superintendent. She highlighted the dedication of teachers who conduct research despite their daily workload. Her message encouraged everyone to keep exploring ideas that could improve teaching practices, strengthen learner performance, and support DepEd’s vision. The participants responded with enthusiastic applause, motivated by her encouragement.
Soon after, Dr. Miguel Mac D. Aposin, CESO IV and the Schools Division Superintendent, delivered his message. He emphasized the importance of platforms like the Research Forum in nurturing a culture of excellence. He acknowledged the hard work of teacher-researchers and reminded them that every study—big or small—contributes to building better schools for Filipino learners. His words echoed a strong call for collaboration, perseverance, and purpose-driven research.
To officially begin the competition segment, Dr. Marggie A. Obligacion, Senior Education Program Specialist for Planning and Research, took the stage for the introduction of judges and the reading of the rules and criteria for judging. Held on August 25, 2023, this congress was a platform for collaboration, reflection, and knowledge-sharing, fostering a sense of unity and purpose among participants.
The event began with a sense of national pride as Mrs. Dorislyn Bellosillo, MT-I, led everyone in singing the National Anthem. This was followed by a moment of reflection, as Ms. Estela B. Fano, P-II, offered a heartfelt prayer. The regional and Capiz hymns added a touch of local culture and pride to the proceedings.
