BRIEF HISTORY OF DNHS
BRIEF HISTORY OF DNHS
Dassun National High School started its operation in 1996 as Andarayan National High School-Dassun Annex through the initiative of Mr. Thomas Masirag, the principal of Dassun Elementary School (DES) who was a witness on how difficult it was for the graduates of DES to pursue their secondary education in Andarayan National High School (ANHS) considering the life situation, the distance and the limited public transportation available within the community.
Moved with compassion to the young learners, Mr. Masirag took the initiative of drafting a resolution signed by the barangay officials addressed to the then Municipal Mayor Hon. Rodrigo C. De Asis requesting for the opening of Andarayan National High School Dassun-Annex.
Mrs. Milagros S. Ubina, then ANHS principal, accepted the proposal knowing the big help it could give to Barangay Dassun especially to the learners and parents.
In March 1996, the graduates of DES which is composed of 34 boys and 24 girls became the first batch of the first year students of Andarayan High School-Dassun Annex occupying a certain room in DES.
Ms. Editha de Asis, the assigned Teacher in-Charge (TIC) of the first year students in DES, together with three (3) high school teachers, taught different subjects to the students in compliance to a Memorandum of Agreement signed between the parties.
In School Year 1997-1998, the students were transferred to the new relocation area situated at the northern part of DES. It is a 1.06-hectare untitled area donated by the municipality of Solana.
With the increasing number of enrolment and facilities, the Division of Cagayan installed and designated Mr. Roberto D. Tallud, Head Teacher III, to man the school in 2002.
Coupled with compassion and determination, Mr. Tallud worked for the separation of the school to become Dassun National High School (DNHS) which was granted approval on October 2, 2004. DNHS started with six (6) permanent teachers, two (2) provincial school board and two (2) local school board paid teachers.
In his retirement, Mr. Tallud left the school with a total of 14 permanent teachers, two (2) locally funded teachers, two (2) security guards and a total of 412 students.
Thereafter, Mrs. Corazon Camayang, successor of the retired School Head, was detailed as the Secondary School Principal of DNHS and served the school from 2014-2017. One great legacy during her administration was the opening of the Senior High School Department.
Affected by school heads reorganization in 2017, Mr. Joel Camayang, the principal of Casambalangan National High School, Sta. Ana Cagayan was detailed to DNHS. With a reigning power, he started to manage 412 students, 14 permanent teachers, three (3) security guards, and one (1) utility worker who are duly compensated by the municipal fund and PTA fund.
In October 2019, Mr. Carlo M. Caranguian, Head Teacher of Pacac Grande National High School, Amulung, Cagayan was installed by Mr. Jose G. Talosig, Administrative Officer of the Division of Cagayan as the Principal of DNHS.
Today, Dassun National High School continues to live the DepEd mandate of providing quality education to the 664 Junior and Senior High School learners of Northern part of Solana, with its School Head, Head Teacher, 26 teachers, one (1) bookkeeper, two (2) disbursing officers, three (3) security guards of whom two (2) are duly compensated by the municipal fund and one (1) by the School MOOE, and one (1) utility compensated by the LGU.
