Windows Server 2008 R2 is a server operating system and the fourth release
of Windows Server produced by Microsoft as part of the Windows NT family of operating systems. It was released to OEM hardware partners on July 22, 2009, and became generally available on October 22, that year. It is the successor to the Windows Vista-based Windows Server 2008, released the previous year.
An ISO file (often called an ISO image), is an archive file that contains an identical copy (or image) of data found on an optical disc, like a CD or DVD. They are often used for backing up optical discs, or for distributing large file sets that are intended to burn to an optical disc
Server
➢ A computer program that accepts and responds to requests made by another program, known as CLIENT.
Client
➢ It retrieves information from or uses resources provided by the server.
Domain
➢ It contains a group of computers that can be accessed and administered with a common set of rules. Examples: goole.com, deped.gov, techopedia.com
Domain Controller (DC)
➢ A domain controller (DC) is a server that responds to security authentication requests within a Windows Server domain. It is a server in Microsoft Windows or Windows NT network that is responsible for allowing host access to Windows domain
resources.
Active Directory
➢ It is a directory service that is in charge of centralized domain management.
Active Directory Domain Services
➢ It is a server role in Active Directory that allows the admin to manage and store information about resources from a network, as well as application data in a distributed database
Roles
➢ Server Role is a set of software, when they are installed and properly configured, lets a computer perform a specific function for multiple users or other computers within a network.

DNS Server ➢ It stores a database of different domain names, network names, Internet hosts, DNS records, and other related data.
The ISO File has all the versions of Windows Server 2008 R2 on it and we can choose the option we want to install here. Choose the Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise (Full Installation) option and click NEXT.
Put a checkmark in the I accept the license terms check box and click NEXT.
In this step, you are going to choose “Which type of installation do you want?” and choose Custom(Advanced).
In this step, all the information needed will be installed.
During the first login, the Installer will ask you to create a password. Click OK when you see the display as it appears below.
Enter a password and confirm the password and click the ARROW which sits to the right of the confirm password text box
One of the first things we want to correct is the time, so choose SET TIME ZONE. Make sure that you set the time zone first because the date and time will shift after
The initial configuration Tasks window pops up as soon as you log in. You could also type Oobe.exe in the command prompt to arrive here.
Next we want to choose Configure Networking. The first server installed in a network needs to be a Domain Controller, and since they require a static IP, we are going to need to s et one up now. Double click on Local Area Connection, and once the information box pops up, click on Properties
Click on Internet Protocol Version 4 in the Networking box, then click Properties. Change the radial button to Use the following IP address: and then enter the settings for your specific server and network IP addresses. When you’re finished, click OK to save those settings.
