History

Concepcion Elementary School has a very colorful, remarkable, and memorable history. Most residents call it the “MAIN” meaning there is still another public school that is found in Concepcion and that is H. Bautista Elementary School. It was acquired by the Marikina government way back in 1953 having a total land area of 28,579 square meters or equivalent to 2.8 hectares donated by the famous clan, Tuazon family of Marikina. As far as land area is concerned, it is the biggest public elementary school in Marikina.

The total land area was reduced with the acquisition of the Regional Educational Learning Center found at the rear end portion of the lot. The RELC which was built in 1986 is a busy center where meetings, seminars, and conventions are held.

In 1998, Mayor Bayani Fernando through his motto, “Discipline, Good Taste and Excellence” had initiated renovation of the front gate of the school and moved backward to give way to public park and some portion of the Marcos Building which was occupied by the Public City Health Office, which was used as Barangay Health Center that caters patients from neighboring sitios and barangays.

In September 2001, two of the biggest buildings in Concepcion Elementary School were built and later occupied by Marikina High School. Almost one-half of the remaining land area is now occupied by MHS thus leaving the CES approximately less than 14,000 square meters. Other buildings like the Bagong Lipunan, a Marcos type building, had been demolished to give way to another new building.

At present, the Gabaldon building is the oldest type of building still seen existing that serves as replica of the past decade. It serves as service center and multi-purpose hall. Its uniqueness in structure with a complete touch of American architecture, reminds us that Concepcion was once a station of aircraft during the peace time. Inside the Gabaldon building is the Principal’s office and the District Office for Marikina II.

At the back of Gabaldon building rises a big gymnasium which was designed and donated by the former Congressman Romeo C. Candazo, an alumnus of this school, during the 50’s. The gymnasium was built especially for the students and parents of CES in holding big events like graduation ceremonies, PTA meetings, sports fest and other civic action activities.

In 2004, a new 3-storey edifice was constructed to accommodate at least 500 and more pupils. With the advent of the new building, more teachers were deployed to cope with the increasing number of enrollees then and the years to come. The building is specially designed by Cong. Del R. de Guzman, to solve the problem of classroom shortage. It was taken from his countrywide development funds.

In 2007, additional 3-storey, 27-classroom building was constructed to accommodate more pupils for the school year 2007-2008. The building was built during the time of mayor, Hon. Ma. Lourdes C. Fernando for the people of Concepcion. The same year, the PTA and Rodriguez building had been demolished to give way to ground leveling and landscaping to add new look and beauty to the school.

The tremendous physical change in Concepcion Elementary School generated emotional impact among the teachers but it did not alter their attitude regarding their performance and achievements but rather established a higher sense of professional commitment and generated awareness to enhance their learning competencies.

The complete renovation of the Gabaldon building adds more beauty to school surroundings. The old guidance office is now turned into a beautiful, office of the District II Public Schools District Supervisor. The building is fully furnished and the new social hall is really suited for seminars and meetings in the district.

The teachers had overcome the difficult times of the past years in the physical setback of the school. Teachers’ potential was upgraded and enhanced. Pupils’ intelligence and skills were once again tapped for district, city, regional, and international competitions through the efforts exerted by the teachers and pupils as well as the administrators.
