Capungagan High School, an annex school of Kapalong National High School is located 5.5km away from the heart of the Municipality of Kapalong. The school was opened in June 2002 with LSB Resolution No. 05 s. 2001 dated October 30, 2001 and was approved, by the Department of Education in a letter dated April 24, 2002 signed by SDS Glo,ria P. Labor, Ed.D. The opening of the school was spearheaded by the former Barangay Captain of Capungagan Hon. Rufo Galvan with the full support of the Barangay Council and the people of Capungagan. With the desire to serve the community, the barangay officials insisted to open Capungagan on opening Capungagan High School on the condition that barangay officials, municipal officials, and its stakeholders will work hand in hand in acquiring.
The first batch of First Year students of 81 (49 males and 32 females) were housed temporarily at Marcos P. Estoque Elementary School of Capungagan, Kapalong, Davao del Norte. Occupying one classroom in SY 2002-2003, two teachers solely paid by PTCA, Mrs. Cecille B. Maturan (School In-charge) and Ms. Rhoda G. Navarro worked hand in hand to keep the school operations normal. With humility and respect, they surpassed all trials. After a year of operation, the school became known to its adjacent barangays, resulting in the rapid enrollment increase. A total of 200 students were enrolled for SY 2003-2004 comprising 107 for the first year and 93 for the second year. With this, another classroom has been borrowed since the school site has not yet been realized. Two teachers were also added whose salaries were still shouldered by the PTCA. During the third year of operation, third-year level was also opened. It was this time that the PTCA seek help from the Baragay Council of Capungagan, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Kapalong, and the Provincial Government of Davao del Norte to provide for the salaries of five (5) teachers amounting to Php 3,500.00 /monthly. PTCA collection is always delayed since most of its students come from a family with a meager income.
However, despite this circumstance, the teachers still do their duties and responsibilities in imparting knowledge to students to achieve quality education. Due to the increasing population and the offering of a fourth level, on the school year 2005- 2006, Capungagan High School was transferred to the old barangay hall and condemned public market. The barangay council appropriated Php 40,000 for its modifications and improvements. Also, during this school year, Mr. Edward C. Amoguis, Master Teacher 1 of Kapalong National High School was assigned as the School Administrator. The teaching force became eight, five of which are LSB/PSB paid and the remaining three are permanent teachers from the mother school. With so much love for work, as a mentor and administrator, Mr. Amoguis initiated plans and projects to help improve the school. And through SBRMS assistance from DepEd, the school office was also improved.
It was on June 12, 2008, when a Deed of Donation was handed by Delta Farms Inc to Mrs. Jovita Sayre. And another parcel of land measuring one (1) hectare was donated by the heirs of Baltazar Nicor Valenzuela and Francisca Bahalla represented by Genoveva V. Marces in favor of Capungagan High School.
