These wild pigs are called locally "bangolan" and during the Spanish regime, when somebody asked the name of the place, an old man mistakenly answered with his prize catch which he proudly called "bango-bangolan" and from that time on, the place was called Bango-bangolan. When the Americans arrived, they were impressed by the fragrance of the flowers and so they named the place Bangbangolan derived from the llocano term 'bangbangluan which means to give fragrance. The place is an agricultural area and most of the people are farmers. Their main crops are palay, root crops, vegetables and fruits. As of the last survey of the BHW in the barangay, there were 177 households and a total population of 695. llocano is the main dialect of the people in the barangay.
