Grandfather:
Giacomo Scasa Bianco, also known as Santiago Blanco
(1779–1845)
Giacomo Scasa Bianco was born in 1779 in Cervo, Imperia, Liguria, Italy, to Francesco Bianco and Maria Ana Scasa, both natives of the same town. He later became a naturalized Spanish citizen and adopted the name Santiago Blanco.
According to some accounts, Santiago’s origins are uncertain—he may have been Spanish, Italian, or Portuguese. He worked as a mercenary in Spain before being deported to Italy. There, he adopted the surname "Bianchi" and became involved in the conflicts between the Royalists and Garibaldi’s forces. Eventually, he traveled to Mexico, reverted his surname to Blanco, joined the galleon trade, and ultimately settled in the Philippines.
On December 20, 1815, he married Josefa Escobar at Quiapo Church (Parroquia de San Juan Bautista). At the time, he was 36 years old and worked as a merchant ("comerciante"). The notary, Don Lorenzo Garello, stated he had known Santiago since the latter was 26 years old, indicating that Santiago had been in Manila since at least 1805. He passed away in December 1845. His will mentioned that he had at least two sisters still living in Italy.

The Father:
Ramón Venancio Escobar BLANCO
About 1817-1897
A late bloomer in relationships.
Ramon Escobar Blanco, the first child of our ancestor, Santiago, must be a late bloomer in relationships. At 45, when he was an English teacher at the Escuela Bellas Artes, he possibly met Margarita Ronquillo, a 20-year old Spanish-Italian interpreter at the “Cacita” now called Malacañang in 1863 when it became the official residence of the Spanish Governor General. He had 8 children with Margarita.
THE THIRD GENERATION BLANCOS – 1800 AN ENGLISH PROFESSOR DURING THE SPANISH PERIOD
Ramon Venancio Escobar Blanco - eldest son of Santiago Blanco and Josefa Escobar
He was baptized in Quiapo, suburb of Manila on May 17, 1817
At 40 , he was an English professor and served the Escuela Bellas Artes (School of Arts and Crafts) for 9 years. He was granted compensation for his services (Pesos 690 per year) by the Superior Government of Spain until the age of 80 (1897) To be able to speak English during the Spanish time, he must have studied abroad, possibly in Europe. This could be an indication that the Escobar-Blancos of Quiapo Manila lived comfortably and have the means to send their first born aboard.
It is also possible that he learned English from foreign merchants, since his father, Santiago, was a merchant himself. It can be noted that Americans have started trading with Manila even before their coming in 1898.
