According to the Dangerous Drugs Board, the Barkada Kontra Droga (BKD) Program—now rebranded as Barkada Kontra Bisyo (BKB)—was conceptualized in 2004 and formally institutionalized in 2007 through Board Regulation No. 5, Series of 2007. The program is anchored on the principle of people empowerment, seeking to cultivate healthy, drug-free, and productive individuals. At its core, BKB empowers members to become proactive influences within their peer groups by advocating a drug-free lifestyle and engaging in positive, purposeful, and socially relevant activities.
Anchored on the principle of people empowerment and guided by the motto “Serviam – I will serve,” BKB seeks to cultivate healthy, drug-free, and productive individuals who can positively influence their peers through meaningful service. Its core values are expressed as follows:
BKB empowers members to serve with moral integrity and spiritual purpose. By cultivating faith, ethical behavior, and responsible decision-making, members learn to lead by example, inspiring their peers to make healthy, drug-free choices grounded in strong values.
BKB instills a sense of patriotism and civic duty, encouraging members to contribute positively to their communities and the nation. By participating in youth-led initiatives and promoting social responsibility, members exercise their empowerment to effect meaningful change in society.
BKB fosters compassion, respect, and empathy among members, motivating them to serve their peers and communities. By engaging in volunteerism, peer support, and socially relevant activities, members become proactive influencers who advocate for drug-free living and holistic well-being.
Through service to the environment, BKB encourages members to take active roles in protecting and preserving nature. This instills responsibility, promotes sustainable practices, and reinforces the idea that caring for the environment is part of a healthy and productive lifestyle.
Barkada Kontra Bisyo envisions a generation of Filipino learners who are vice-free, disciplined, resilient, and future-ready, inspired by faith in God, respect for human dignity, love for the environment, and commitment to nation-building. We strive to create a drug-free and healthy learning community where every learner can reach their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society.
Barkada Kontra Bisyo, as a student-centered and peer-led movement, commits itself to:
Uphold Maka-Diyos by promoting spirituality, moral integrity, and purposeful living, guiding learners to make value-based choices away from vices.
Live out Maka-tao by fostering compassion, solidarity, and mutual support, ensuring that no student is left behind in the fight against destructive habits.
Practice Makakalikasan by advocating for a holistic lifestyle that values health, wellness, and environmental stewardship as foundations of a vice-free life.
Strengthen Makabansa by developing disciplined, patriotic, and responsible youth leaders who contribute to a safe, progressive, and sustainable Philippines.
Through education, peer mentorship, and community action, BKB empowers learners to lead healthier lives, influence their peers positively, and serve as role models for responsible citizenship.
