HISTORY
The Bakakeng Norte-Sur Multi-Purpose Cooperative (BNSMPC) traces its roots to the aftermath of the devastating July 16, 1991 earthquake. Fifteen pioneers came together to form a cooperative that would help rebuild lives and support the community. On December 17, 1992, the Cooperative was officially registered with the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) under Reg. No. CEO-108, starting with a modest capital of ₱7,500 through a small rice and hog feeds business.
In 1997, the Cooperative shifted to savings and credit services and expanded its membership drive. Following the passage of RA 9520, the name was amended to Bakakeng Norte-Sur Multi-Purpose Cooperative and re-registered with CDA on March 22, 2010 (Reg. No. 9520-15012353). By 2014, BNSMPC was recognized by CDA as one of the Millionaire Cooperatives with 100 members.
Over the years, BNSMPC has grown steadily, offering various loan windows, opening its office for longer business days, and hiring full-time staff. The Cooperative actively supports community initiatives such as Brigada Eskwela, bloodletting drives, and clean-and-green programs. During the COVID-19 pandemic, BNSMPC extended relief assistance to members and the community, earning the Gawad Parangal KOOP BAYANIHAN Award (2020) from the Baguio City Development Council, CDA-CAR, and the City Government of Baguio.
In 2022, BNSMPC was recognized during CDA-CAR’s 30th Anniversary for maintaining compliant operations for three decades. From its humble beginnings, the Cooperative has grown from Micro to Small (2017), and now to Medium Category (2024). With innovations such as the e-Coop Accounting System, the Binnadang Program, and the Membership Capital Loan, BNSMPC continues to strengthen services and empower members.
Recently, the Cooperative partnered with Bakakeng National High School for Project ELEVATE—a pioneering initiative to bring financial literacy and entrepreneurship closer to the youth.
Today, BNSMPC stands as a testament to resilience, cooperation, and service—continuing its mission to uplift the lives of its members and the community.
