School Profile

Fifty-three years ago Barangay Abanon had no high school where parents could send their children for formal secondary education. Neither was there any high school in the nearby barangays. Should parents send their children to high school, they would be obliged to spend more for possible high school would be private ones. It was then decided through consultation with parents and barangay officials and with proper coordination with municipal officials and with the help of a concerned citizen by the name Dr. Orata, the putting up of a high school was realized as strengthened by a municipal ordinance. The school then ws called Abanon Village High School. Later it became Abanon Barangay High School through a bill passed by then assembly man Filipe Devera.

After twenty-three years, the school, by virtue of Republic Act 189 became a newly nationalized high school and considered the biggest among fifteen (15) newly nationalized high schools in San Carlos City, Pangasinan.

When the school started in 1964, it had only twenty students - ten (10) male the (10) females.

During its first two decades, it was integraded with the elementary school of Abanon. From the time it bacame a barangay school, it had been mage by Mrs. Pricilla R. Castro as teacher in charge untill she was appointed Principal I. When Mrs. Castro was promoted to Education Supervisor, the school was temporarily headed bt Mr. Joel Z. Basto one of the ANHS Head Teachers until the appointment of Mrs. Arlyn T. Verosil, as Principal II was approved. Verosil served as the school's principal from June 25, 2005 - June 5, 2009. Then from June 6, 2009 - June 14, 2010 ANHS was under the lieadership of Dr. Severo P. Mill, Jr., the school continues breaking the barriers towards development, through the leadership of Mrs. Margarita S. Fernandez, Principal III. After the retirement of Mrs. Fernandez the school was temporarily headed by Mrs. Lourdes C. Velasquez Head Teacher III as the Officer-in-Charge from February 29, to June 12, 2016.

So far, the school now has an enrolment of more or less 900 students, a Principal, Assistant Principal, five (5) Head Teachers, five (5) Master Teachers, sixty (60) teachers, Bookkeeper, Disbursing Officer, Clerk, two (2) Security Guards, and two (2) Utility worker.

Abanon National High School is one of the public schools in the city of San Carlos, Pangasinan. Located at Brgy. Abanon, almost 8.5 km South of San Carlos City proper, its neighboring barangays are Brgy. Caoayan Kiling (southbound) and Brgy. Malacañang (northbound). Founded in 1964, the school has existed and currently handled by 68 Administrators, faculty and staff, and 10 non-teaching and support staff. With present student population of 1205 (SY 2020-2021), Abanon National High School is categorized as Large school by the Department of Education.

As a sole recipient of SEDP building package in the entire city - it has Library Building, H.E Building, Laboratory Room, a two-storey main building, and a Senior High School Building.

In 2016, Senior High School Department has been added with the following Tracks offering: Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM), General Academic Strand (GAS), Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS), and Technical-Vocational and Livelihood with 2 strands-- Beauty Care (TVL-HE) and Computer Systems Servicing (TVL-ICT).

Abanon National High School has produced Professionals, Engineers, CPAs, Teachers, Nurses, Police Officers here and abroad.

It has been serving the city, in particular, and the country in general, not only as an institution of learning but also as character builder.
