Barangay Luga is one among the remote barangay of Sta. Teresita. It comprises Sitio Bangalao. Luga is a former Barangay of Buguey but it was separated sometime in 1960’s from Buguey during the reigned of Governor Teresa Dupaya when she named our town Sta. Teresita in honor of her name.
After the World War II, in 1946 children of over-age had been attending classes with only one teacher in a school house, however this scenario did not last long because the community people planned to put up a school for the following year.
The Parent Teachers Association had been very resourceful, cooperative and supportive. Some donated land for the erection of Luga Primary School. Then another teacher was employed to this barangay to complete the primary grade. Most of the children after finishing the primary grade stop or didn’t continue anymore their elementary grade because of the distance of complete elementary grade which was only found in town about 3.5 kilometers away and pupil had to cross a river before reaching the school.
Sixty-one years later, when the dreams of the Parent Teacher Association come true. The school had become a complete elementary school in 1996 because of the increasing population.
Some children had to work a kilometre or two away from the school. During opening of classes, many of them enrol but at the end of the middle of the year or during rainy season some of them drop most especially grade 1 pupils. And so forthis reason a Primary School was established at Bangalao in the year 2003. There was a decrease of enrolment of Luga Elementary School population, however it still meet the minimum number of pupils per class and for the teacher to manage easily.
