Kindergarten pupils are given equal opportunities for Kindergarten Education to effectively promote their physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development, including values formation, so they will be ready for school. The Department of Education (DepEd) believes that Kindergarten is the transition period from informal to formal literacy (Grades 1–12), considering that age five (5) is within the critical years in which positive experiences must be nurtured to ascertain school readiness.
It is expected that first graders should be able to read at least 3 letter words; communicate verbally and nonverbally, identify the basic parts of the body, animals, and plants, learn the basic skills involving numbers 1-100, learn about one's self, and know the fundamentals in Music, Arts PE and Health.
The grade 2 curriculum covers further development of the communication skills of the child, how to use their senses, learn the skills involving numbers up to 1000, learn about the community, and know the fundamentals in Music, Arts PE and Health.
The pupils are taught to further develop their communication skills, know the functions of the different parts of the body, learn the skills involving numbers up to 10,000, learn how to make one's life peaceful, and apply the fundamentals of Music, Arts, PE and Health.
Grade four learners should be able to communicate correctly, learn the functions of the internal parts of the body, understand the skills involving number up to 100,000, internalize patriotism, learn the basic skills in EPP, understand the fundamentals of MAPEH, and understand the importance of doing worthwhile activities for the betterment of the community.
The pupils are expected to communicate critically, learn how reproduction takes place, understand the skills involving number up to ,10,000,000, learn about changes in history, increase knowledge in EPP, learn about fundamental processes in MAPEH, and apply critical analysis when making decisions.
Pupils should communicate with high level of proficiency, learn how the body systems work together, understand key concept and skills involving numbers and number sense, learn more about the the world from the 20th century until the present times, expand knowledge in TLE, learn about fundamental processes in MAPEH, and understand activities that will uplift one's dignity and makes life prosper.
