Republic Act 10157, or "The Kindergarten Education Act" made Kindergarten the compulsory and mandatory entry stage to basic education. Section 2 of this Act provides that all 5year old children shall be given equal opportunities for Kindergarten Education to effectively promote their physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development, including values formation, so they will be ready for school.
Most children enter 1st grade being able to name the letters and identify the sounds. First grade is packed with important and exciting transitions as children leave behind much of the play of preschool and kindergarten, and begin to develop more academic skills.
Grade 2 curriculum includes a strong focus on reading, language arts and number logic. As second graders learn to read more independently they will progress in fluency, analysis and comprehension. they also start to learn to add and subtract by regrouping numbers.
Learners from grade 3 will start to put their concrete learning into practice as they tackle more complicated and abstract assignments. They apply skills they learned in grades 1 and 2, pupils now start working more independently rather than working with explicit instructions from their teachers.
Grade 4 learners read solid comprehension skills. In 4th grade level, children will be adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing large whole numbers. She will also be working with decimals and fractions.
In grade 5 curriculum, students will read and understand new vocabulary in science and social studies as well significantly improve their grammar skills. They are also expected to practice more complex mathematical concepts such as exponents, decimals, fractions and more.
Grade 6 pupils will have more long-term homework assignments and projects, and will need to step up their organizational skills to keep track of different assignments and deadlines for various teachers.
