Curricular Offerings
K-12 Curriculum as a general educational term typically refers to the content being taught and the learning experiences students have in the school setting in grades kindergarten through twelve. Masi Primary School, which started as a primary school, has slowly expanded into a complete elementary school. On SY 2017-2018, the school started to offer Grade 3 and had opened new grade level since then. This school year 2020-2021, Masi PS will be producing its first batch of Grade 6 graduates.
Kindergarten
Republic Act 10157, or “The Kindergarten Education Law” made Kindergarten the compulsory and mandatory entry stage to basic education. Section 2 of this Act provides that all five (5)-year old children shall be given equal opportunities for Kindergarten Education to effectively promote their physical, social, emotional and intellectual development, including values formation so they will be ready for school.
Grade 1
Most children enter Grade 1 able to name the letters and identify the sounds. First grade involves increased responsibilities and huge growth in terms of learning to read. Children who are well prepared for first grade enter school being able to follow two and three-step directions.
Grade 2
Grade 2 learners become more experienced writers and readers by practicing their skills in more complex and comprehensive ways. They read bigger and more complicated books and write longer and more in-depth pieces. A second grade education includes a strong focus on reading, language arts and number logic.
Grade 3
Third-grade learners move from “learning to read” to “reading to learn” and will start reading more for pleasure. After mastering literacy skills in earlier grades, 3rd graders become better and more independent readers. Third-grade reading focuses on teaching kids how to think and talk about what they read in deeper and more detailed ways. Learners also start to learn how to use a more formalized writing process of drafting, editing, and finalizing outputs.
Grade 4
Fourth grade is where learners take another leap towards independent work. It is usually the first year in which it will take on big weight and include long, home-based projects. This is also crucial as it is their transition year: from Mother Tongue-based learning to Tagalog (L2) and English (L3) based. In 4th grade, students learn how to deeply think about and make connections in new material, and grasp more complex concepts across all subjects.
Grade 5
Grade 5 is all about helping students practice, refine, and grow their skills. Students build on what they learned in 4th grade by analyzing material in deeper ways, and write structured, clear, and detailed pieces about a variety of subjects. They are encouraged and expected to be more independent in their learning, and to require less guidance and support from teachers and other adults.
Grade 6
Grade 6 is the end of learners' primary education. It is a year of significant transition for learners as they use the skills they have previously learned and apply them to more complex and independent learning in deeper and more rigorous ways.
