It has been a year since our President Rodrigo R. Duterte declared a state of public health emergency due to Coronavirus (COVID-19). Everyone was saddened by the announcement made by the virus that might cause a large number of deaths due to exposure to an infectious carriers. Face to face classes was delayed for a while and advised school children to just stay at home and have modular and online learning classes . T my young age of 11, there are certain things that I don't understand about this Coronavirus. What is COVID-19? How does it affect people around the world? Who are at risk of this deadly disease?
Based in my research, further reading and continuously watching news from the different health experts, things get clearer and somewhat made me worried of this disease. The COVID-19 pandemic is a worldwide disease which is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome and was originated somewhere in Wuhan, China in 2019. This virus affects wide range of people specially the elders and those with weak immune system and underlying medical health problems. Covid-19 can be transmitted through close contact and are contaminated by droplets and airborne particles release by the infected carrier.
Most common symptoms of this disease are fever, dry cough and tiredness. Furthermore, body ache and pains, sore throat, headache, loss of taste, and smell, difficulty breathing and chest pain were also noted and need an immediate medical attention. According to the medical experts, we can prevent the spread of covid-19 if we will follow the health protocols mandated by the Department of Health (DOH) to the public. Proper handwashing such as washing our hands with soap and water for at least 20 minutes, the use of hand sanitizers, observing physical distancing and wearing of protective tools like facemask and face shield are some of the important tips that we need to take seriously. Let us be grateful that vaccines are now available to control the spread of Covid 29 but we also do our part as a citizen to follow health protocols accordingly.
Lastly, this new normal of living that we are having in this time of pandemic, is not a reason for us to stop with our dreams, but rather let us all embrace and continue pursuing our goal in life.
