Marus Elementary School is one of the biggest schools in Baggao East District, Baggao, Cagayan. It is located at Sitio Marus, Hacienda-Intal, Baggao, Cagayan. The school has a lot number of 8475 . It has an area of 0.8185 ha. Its boundaries are as follows: North E, existing road; SEast, Lot 8477; South W Lot 8477 & 8476; and NWest with Lot 8476. The lot is at the foot of mountains and is surrounded by creeks.
Before Marus Primary School was established, children hiked through rough roads and crossed creeks to a very far school. They could not attend classes during rainy seasons because the road was very muddy and they could not cross the overflowing creeks. This situation motivated the residents of sitio Marus to request for a school to their sitio. With the number of learners at the said sitio, the school was successfully established through the initiative of Barangay Captain Wilfredo Dammay.
The school had formally opened as Marus Primary School on June, 1976 under the supervisorship of Mr. Eliseo B. Ave and was operated by a lone teacher and teacher-in-charge, Mrs. Emiliana Peἡaflorida. Mrs. Penaflorida started teaching 65 Grade 1 and Grade 2 learners, combination class, in a cogon and bamboo-made classroom which was funded by the Parent- Teacher Community Association (PTCA).
With the increasing population of learners in the succeeding years, the school had offered intermediate grade levels and became Marus Elementary School in 1992. Mr. Edmar Gamata was the teacher-in-charge during that time. The Department of Education (DepEd) hired additional teachers to satisfy the educational needs of the increasing number of learners.
In 1993, a two-classroom DepEd building was constructed. The increasing number of learners had still needed additional classrooms, so they constructed classrooms funded by Parent- Teacher Association (PTA) through the initiative of Mr. Gamata.
In 2006, Mrs. Violeta J. Milet, Principal 1, initiated a two-classroom PTA building for additional classrooms of learners. This was also the time when the belfry was built.
In 2008, the school started to build mini-gymnasium through the initiative of Mrs. Estrelita Lagundi, Principal I.
In 2013, during the time of Mrs. Angelica C. Rosario, Principal I, a three-classroom DepEd building was constructed at the eastern part of the school.. It was also her time when the roofings of the mini-gym was built through the PTA fund.
In 2014, the school was given one classroom from DepEd, the computer laboratory. After two years, the three-classroom PTA building was demolished for the construction of a three-classroom DepEd building at the same site. This was also the year when the school was installed with electricity. Mr. Robustiano E. Gaspar was the principal in this period.
In June 2017, a reading center funded by PTA and a Rain Catchment Facility funded by DepEd were constructed.
From the traditional way to a high technological way of teaching and submission of school reports, from the Face to Face to a Modular Distance Learning, the Marus Elementary School gives its best through the dedicated teachers who are always connected with the community for the best results of education.
Despite the 2019 Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic, Marus Elementary School continuously provides quality education using the Modular Distance Learning since October, 2020. The 447 learners are under the educational care of Mrs. Novalyn T. Urbien, Head Teacher III, one Master Teacher, ten Teacher III, five Teacher I and one Volunteer Teacher.
