I. INTRODUCTION
The school canteen serves as a venue for the development of desirable eating habit of pupil. It also serves as a laboratory for Home Economics, retail trade and in the incidental teaching of health and nutrition. It helps eliminate malnutrition among pupils. Canteen, in most schools is considered as of the primary sources of school funds. Its circulation greatly helps in funding of school minor projects and activities.
So, Masical Elementary School opened its school canteen operated by a parent. The operator will pay 100 per day.
II. OBJECTIVES
1. To improve the nutritional status of the pupils
2. To ensure the safety of the pupils on the food they eat
3. To provide a variety of nutrient-rich foods and fortified food products at affordable cost
4. To augment financial needs of the school
III. CANTEEN OPERATIONS
a. Food items for sale in school canteen were fortified food products and beverages like prepared juice (calamansi juice, buko juice).
b. A variety of choices of nutrient-rich foods and fortified food products at affordable cost.
c. Local foods like boiled banana, boiled kamote were sold every Monday and Friday.
d. Iodized salt were used to ensure the iodine requirements of the pupils in order to eliminate iodine deficiency disorder.
IV. RESULT/IMPACT
The result of the canteen based from the gross sale was satisfactorily good and that malnourished children were also lessen.
V. CONCLUSION
The school needs continuous implementation of the operation of the
canteen for it really helps improve the nutritional status of the pupils as well as it helps suffice some amount for school funds.
