Caratacat Elementary School
Caratacat is one of the 47 barangays of the municipality of Amulung. It lies in the western district of the town and it bears a very good location geographically, economically, and educationally.
Caratacat is bounded by its neighboring barangays: Catarauan Amulung and Catarauan Piat in the West, Nanuccauan in the Northwest, Calintaan in the Southeast, and a vast arable rice field in the North and Northeastern.
The locality has a total land area of 336.70 hectares. It is composed of 293 household populations and is one of the largest barangays of the municipality. Headed by Barangay Captain Proceso M. Daguio Sr. , it is-sub divided by seven puroks, each manned by a Barangay Kagawad and a Barangay Tanod, who are elected and appointed respectively by the community and the Barangay Council. The said political family is renewed every after three years as mandated in the Government’s Constitution.
To ensure genuine health status of the folks and to address sanitation and health issues, Barangay Health Workers were also appointed to assist the lone midwife of the barangay. Despite the minimal remuneration the Barangay Council extends them, it is observed that they discharge their duties responsibly for they know it is for the common good of their fellowmen.
The barangay also prides itself with its rich cultural and socio-economic status. Caratacat is populated by descendants of hospitable, accommodating, approachable, and happy people, thereby giving importance the observance of fiestas as means of thanksgiving to the abundant harvest within the year. The said practice then is coupled by merry making thereby welcoming all visitors, be it their relatives or not, who would traverse the place during the said important event. To them, this is the only activity that could pave their year for a celebration after a pound struggle in the rice field.
Iloko is the major dialect of the place; however, Itawes and Ybanag are also used by a counted few. English and Filipino languages are also widely understood by the whole barangay, and this is attributed to the high literacy rate of the said place.
Caratacat people gives due importance to education, no matter what level of education is attainable by them. For them the emergence of Caratacat Elementary School is of utmost importance to the lives of their sons and daughters for they need not to go in the city or to a
the poblacion from the school gives a stretch of 70 kilometers with approximately one hour and 50 minutes.
Though not everybody bears a very good economic and financial status in the place, this does not hinder the parents to motivate their children to go school, rather, this encourages them to continue their struggle toward the attainment of a better living.
With the strategic location of the place coupled with the supportive folks living in it, attainment of improvement, progress, and development is at hand.
The school is composed of 193 pupils including the kindergarten pupils with nine nationally funded teachers, which include one(1) Teacher I, six (6) Teacher III, one (1) Master Teacher and headed by a Principal I.
There are four (4) building in the school which are 2CL BOD, 4CL BLSB, and 2CL PTA Building. The buildings used for seven instructional classrooms, and one Computer Room. All the rooms/buildings need minor and major repairs.
There are seven functional built-in toilets in the school. All are shared CRs. The built-in CRs are need repairs.
In terms of academic or co-curricular activities, the school is actively involved in BSP/GSP and other related activities conducted by the department within the district and higher level of competitions.
The school is supported by external stakeholders. The school organized a functional PTA who supports projects, activities and programs of the school.
Child Protection Committee also organized to ensure the safety and protection of the school children.
