Oil Pastel Techniques

Depending on how hard you press, you can get very different looks! One nice thing about oil pastels is that you can continue to blend colors even when there is already a thick layer down. 

Textures are easy to create with oil pastel! If you want to try sgraffito, you need to put down a thick layer of color, then another thick layer on top (usually a darker color on top works better for this). Then you can use a toothpick, the back of a paintbrush, or anything pointy to scratch out the designs you want.
