HISTORY of PENRO Antique
The old PENRO Antique Office Building
Pursuant to Executive Order No. 192, dated June 10, 1987, five (5) line Bureaus, namely: the Bureau of Lands, Bureau of Forest Development, Bureau of Mines and Geosciences, Bureau of Forest Research Institute and Environment and Management Bureau were integrated into one agency now known as Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) started occupying the formerly FORI Building on September 16, 1988. The building is located at Binirayan Hills, San Jose, Antique, 1.2 kilometers away from the center of the town proper wherein the area was formerly owned by the Provincial Government.
Through the effort and initiative of the OIC PENRO/CENR Officer Edgardo J. Himatay, the area was donated by the Provincial Government signed by Provincial Governor Jovito C. Plameras Jr. on March 23, 1998 through a Resolution No. 57-98 dated January 23, 1998.
The area was surveyed and approved by DENR LMS Regional Technical Director Celso V. Loriega, Jr. on July 21, 1999, and later on Tax Declaration No. 008-1082 of the land containing an area of Seven Thousand Seven Hundred Eighty Nine (7,789) square meters was issued by Eduardo S. Suelan, Provincial Assessor on January 22, 2000.
The renovated PENRO Antique Office Building in the year 2013
Due to cost reduction, the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) which was then renting at the Susana Building, San Jose, Antique transferred at the eastern portion of the CENRO in Binirayan Hills, San Jose, Antique on April 2005. It was during the visit of former President Joseph E. Estrada in Antique that 1.8 million fund was allocated for the construction of the PENRO Antique Office building.
PENRO Antique has also expanded its building, occupying the former Office Building of CENRO San Jose (now CENRO Belison) alongside the main PENRO Antique building.
However, in 2021, a new PENRO Antique Building was constructed in Brgy. Maybato Sur, San Jose, Antique. The design of the building was inspired by a “Balangay”; a sailboat used by the mythical 10 Bornean datus who landed in Malandog River in 12th century. It was inaugurated on February 22, 2022 and was attended by then DENR Secretary Roy A. Cimatu as guest speaker.
