Aquatic bugs and other organism that can be found in streams the types range from Crayfish to different types of larvae. On the index we use there are 21 different categories of macro-inverbrates. Each type has a point associated with it depending on the their tolerance to water quality. Aquatic worms are worth 1 point compared to the mayfly nymphs that are times 3 for each species founds. In the photos on the left we have a few different types of species. On The top we see three types of mayflies. The second photo shows a large caddisfly. The third photo shows two types of stoneflies. All three of the photos show good indicators of good water quality.
The macro-Invertebrate index gives points off of the types and species. This allows us to see a total score from each stream of their type of macro-invertebrates.
